    Hello Reefing Friends!

Wow what a week it has been. There is so much to say and yet so few words to express the range of emotions our community continues to experience. Our hearts and warm thoughts go out to those of you who have suffered real world losses, continued hardships and reefing tragedies.

After much consideration, Manhattan Reefs has decided to move forward with our Fall event scheduled for Sunday Nov. 18th at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. While we realize many of you are reconsidering your involvement in this wonderful hobby, we feel that holding the swap will provide a much needed opportunity for the community that has pulled together so heroically to meet face to face and start to pick up the pieces.

Our vendors have not hesitated in reinforcing this sentiment and many will be going above and beyond with special offers and promotions to help get members back on their feet. Our speakers Sanjay Joshi and Paul Whitby are giving talks on lighting and aquascaping relevant to all hobbyists, but perhaps of particular relevance to those looking to re-boot their systems. The raffle will be robust and the tank tours rewarding. And of course, the most enduring part of the MR experience - the membership will be there to tell tales, trade frags and lend support.

We hope you all will join us, but we do ask that if you wish to attend please do not hesitate to register. This year more than any other it is important for the organizers and vendors to have strong sense of the number of people to expect so we can plan accordingly.

We'd like to leave you with these beautiful words from MR member salwaterinbrooklyn :

"To all of you who lost your reef tanks and had home damage, please take into your heart the support of the MR community and the belief that we always rebuild bigger and better in life.

To all of those on MR, I know you’re probably wondering how anyone could have gained from this , but if you take a minute to reflect on the threads on MR during Sandy you will see that a lot of people and many of us strangers to one another opened our homes and tanks to help to save our ever so loved reef tanks for each other.......

Without hesitation plenty of us on here threw life lines out without intent for profit, but instead for salvation, we showed a solidarity that said, hey stranger across town i have life support for your reef, i have generators, batteries and space in my tank to keep your beloved corals alive! We couldn't save them all, but if there is one thing we gained during this trying time is a great bond of community.

I raise my hat in great spirit and tell you all that I'm proud to be a member of Manhattan Reefs and to all of you who lost your reefs, dont worry because we will help you get those tanks back up and running.

We will never forget this storm, but instead learn and be ready for the next time."

We wish you well, and look forward to seeing you all on the 18th.

P.S. Donate corals here and they will be fragged and given directly to members who lost a large amount of livestock:
