This is my first saltwater tank.  I will try to keep this updated with pictures and comments.
    Stats:
    Tank dimension = 36x24x16 ~ 60 gallons ~ Reef Savvy Rimless
Sump - Trigger System Ruby 30 gal
Top Off - Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155
    Skimmer - Avast Marine CS-1
Skimmer assesories - Avast Marine Swabbie and Davie Jones Skimmate Locker
Lighting - Apollo Reef LED Solar Blast Dimable
    Stand - custom built
    Flow- MP10W ES
Side comment:  Two vendors in particular that I worked with over the Thanksgiving Day specials were Avast Marine and Apollo.  Both were excellent to work with.  Answered many questions of mine very quickly and were very accomodating.  Two thumbs up.
Working with ACC on plumbing, planning, and Apex setup/training.
I will search on GIRS to find out best way to post pictures and get some up on here.

Wow!  A very nice list of equipment for a 1st tank!  I noticed you only listed an MP10 for flow, you will probably need a few of those.  Also, what will you be using for a return pump?

Accident somehow - I'm getting a replacement one shipped to me today.  Another example of good customer service.

Now - I just need to figure out how to get wireless access to work for the Apex through my work's 'guest' wireless hotspot so I can access controller remotely via phone.

Thanks Slovan. For return pump I have a Mag 5. I initially bought the MP10 for a 40 gallon breeder setup - then went this route. I might just go with one mp40 when funds get replentished. I took advantage of some sick Thanksgiving Day sales - and everywhere I read, they suggested to not skimp b/c you will end up replacing down the road....ultimately costing yourself more....case and point - the mp10 vs mp40.

Spoke to Andrew at ACC yesterday and we're going with two 1" drains with a single 1/2" lockline return.

Any advice/comments are greatly welcomed and appreciated!

The MP10s are nice. I had 2 of them on my 43 gallon and they did well. Any reason for going with the Mag 5? If you aren't into skimping than I would get a different pump like an Eheim. I know some people love their Mag pumps but I think they get noisy and act as a secondary heater because they are not very efficient pumps.

I'm not sold on the Mag 5. I'd rather have quiet, efficient, and good flow w/out breaking the bank.

Get an Eheim 1260 or 1262. Then you can tee off the return and use it for things like a bio pellet reactor or carbon reactor. That will also save you from having multiple pumps in the sump.

Jason, looks like your off to a great start. I've got a few questions for ya'.

Are planning on keeping it viewable from all sides? If so be careful when doing your aquascaping, make sure to leave plenty of room between the rock and glass so you can clean it properly. I would suggest investing in a good magnetic scraper such like an Algae Free Piranha, they are somewhat costly compared to other mag cleaners out there but do a lot better job.

Have you considered building some sort of an electrical panel for your Apex and other accessories? I'm going to assume your going to need to run the entire tank from one outlet in your office, hopefully it's equipt with a GFCI. If not putting one inline somewhere might be a good idea. I like panels because they hide all the extra wiring and keep things from looking cluttered. I am actually going to build one for my home tank next week just using some 1/4" mdf painted black with some holes in it for the extra wiring so it is hidden.

How are you planning on hanging the lights?

That tank is freekin' beautiful, hopefully you can keep everything super clean and professional looking as the build progresses.

Thanks Jeremy. I was going to get a Piranha, but they don't work well on 1/2" thick glass so I had to go with the Hammerhead instead. I plan to keep it viewable on 3 of the 4 sides but yes, I plan to make sure the scraper can fit by all aquascape to make sure the glass is always kept clean.

Andrew mentioned about the electrical pannel yesterday and I believe he is bringing something tomorrow. Good idea on the GFCI.

Hanging the lights will be somewhat tricky. Since I cannot hang from ceiling and the tank is peninsula style - most of the prefab store bought stuff won't work. I was going to use 1/2" conduit, painted black and mounted to back side of tank by overflow - or possibly mount it to the office wall (if I can get by with that) and make like an upside down L. Andrew thought he might have something from Macna that might work also....jury still out on that project...

Thanks for the questions and recomendations guys. I am looking into getting an Eheim 1260 for the return. I plan to run Biopellets split off the return.

Question for the group - should I run 1 lockline return or split into 2?

If it were me I would just use the one, it gives it a cleaner look plus it's one less thing to get in the way when trying to work on the tank.
The return isn't going to really add much as far as flow to your tank anyway, at least mine doesn't.  Definitely save up for another mp10, I have 4 of them in my 60./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/w00t.gif

Question on flow. Initially I thought one MP10 would suffice. Now I'm thinking of getting another MP10 to place on the other side of the overflow, or going with just one MP40. Suggestion?

Here is the front of my tank which will get most of the traffic into my office.  I really don't want to place an mp10/40 at that end...which then led me back to placing 2 x mp10 on the overflow side, one on each side of overflow.  Thoughts/input?

Do the MP10s work on 1/2" glass? I didn't think they did.
But if they will I think each side of the overflow would work the best for you.

They are probably not supposed to work but I have put them on other Reef Savvy tanks in the past and they do work.  You have to make sure to use the supplied sticky pads for the zip ties to hold the pump in place as the magnets won't be strong enough to hold the pump on the tank on their own.   Not sure if it would affect the life of the pump in any way.

Been a little while but plumbing has taken a little longer than anticipated. Still working out the kinks. Finding out water evaporation on rimless tanks is a tad faster than expected. Figured out how to get the wave going on the mp40. The mp10 couldn't muster enough umph. Next is getting the Tunze ATO setup and work on the Apex while tank starts cycle.

I noticed today in one of my q-tank, never before seen - worm.  I'm trying to research what kind, but holey cow this thing is big.  Been observing this tank for the past month or so and nothing like this ever.

I noticed I haven't updated this in a bit.  I will post another thread on my experience with Bulk Reef Supply Pukani rock....that led to about a 3 week delay in tank setup.  Here is a shot as of this am.  Tank should be done cycling end of next week.  Finally got my Avast Peg Leg CS-1 skimmer dialed in (I think) Man oh man that pulls out some nasty looking 'crap'.  Working on my custom light hanging unit.  Nothing fancy but should work.  Primer is drying on that.

This morning I was filling 2 buckets of RODI - 2 gallon that goes under my stand and then a 5 gallon I keep on reserve for the weekends when I am out.  It takes a little bit to fill so went back to my office with 2 gallon bucket and then got stopped a few times for questions.  Naturally, I got sidetracked.  About an hour later - overhead announcement that the water is going to be shut off in my building due to a leak in the division below me.  I thought nothing of it until the maintenance guy came to me I have water in the utility closet.  Crap!  That 5 gallon bucket overflowed abuot 10 gallons on a concrete floor...which slight drains towards a wall....where it apparently seeped down below.  Still waiting to see how much trouble I am in.
