Sharpen your Camera skills....GIRS photo Contest is Coming...
By einsteins @ 9:49 PM :: 56 Views :: 0 Comments ::
It is official !!

You asked for it and now your BOD has put together The Quarterly GIRS Photo Contests.

GIRS will be sponsoring a quarterly photo contest starting on Saturday March 1st.
Not only did your BOD put together this contest but they also purchased a whole special Contest Module for our website.
This new Module will make the photo contest very easy to administer and easy to participate in, whether you want to enter a photo or just vote for your favorite picture.
The new module will also give us the capacity to host our own elections and voting events right here within our own website.

Contests will be held in the following months of 2008:

March
May
August
November

These are the scheduled contests and if interest is strong the BOD will consider having additional contests.

SO......Are you ready to get started?
OK, first...Head over the PHOTO forums be sure to read the sticky thread with all of the rules (very important).
In the next day or so, you will also see an Official March Photo Contest Thread where you will find out what the theme for this first contest is, and to discuss all of the entries while the contest is taking place.

Keep an eye on the photo forums as I will be posting some of my favorite photography tips at different times also.

The BOD is very excited to bring you these exciting  Contests!

Now get out that camera, clean the lens, and start taking those pictures.....We cant wait to see what you come up with.

Tank Drilling Meeting
By Steph1643 @ 3:28 PM :: 75 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Area

Check out pictures in the gallery!

Saturday February 23rd we will be meeting at 1:00 to discuss and practice drilling tanks.
Jason (glaspie) and Caleb (calebjk) will be talking about two different ways to drill a tank.
We will be drilling JB's 29 bow, hoppers 60 hex, and benjis.
If you are getting a hole drilled with a dremmel you need to buy and bring a grout removal bit for the dremmel.

After we are finished drilling tanks, we can head over to Buffalo Wild Wings if people are interested (club is NOT paying). Looking forward to a fun meeting; don't forget eye and ear protection, safety first!

Like reefs?! Try SCUBA Diving!
By ToTaLCHaoS13 @ 12:45 PM :: 65 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Off Topic

Last year my wife and I finally decided to go ahead with a desire of mine from childhood.  We went through our local park and recreation department sponsored SCUBA Diving course and I'm proud to say passed!  While most of our dives have been in the midwest so far, we did get the chance to do so in Jamaica this last November...and was it ever worth it!

It's surprising how many places around the Midwest offer classes and one or two day dive trips.  If it's something you are interested in I would encourage you to check with your local park and rec office or YMCA.  You may also be interested in the "Our World-Underwater 2008" event in Chicago this February.  For more information go to http://www.ourworldunderwater.com/.
