I'm going to host an event at my workshop in Grimes on Saturday August 6th. I've got about 1500 SF of conditioned display-floor space that I can clear out (mostly into the other half of the space). So, why not?

Address/map is in the 2nd post. Time will be 10am - 2pm (or whenever)

This will not be an "official" GIRS event - this is just mine so I'm going to keep this pretty simple. Small scale, old fashioned get-together.

Hot Iowa Summer Reefing

Free Admission & open to all Saltwater aquarium people! Or anyone else that wants to attend...

I'm opening up my workshop (Turbo's Aquatics) in Grimes for an old-fashioned get-together.

The building is located on the SW corner of S 17th St and SE Miehe Dr in Grimes, across from the DOT Maintenance Garage & next to Regal Plastics. My space is on the east end/corner of the building.

Spaces/tables will be open to local/Iowa hobbyists and vendors. The only cost that I would need to cover is for rented tables. If you bring your own table, no charge! I will have 1500-2000 SF of space available.

I can do night before and early morning setup on request (contact me). It's going to be hot & sunny, but my shop is very well temperature controlled so that's not a problem.

You can:
- Bring a small tank for a few frags
- Bring frags in cups or bags
- Go full-send & bring a packed frag tank setup
- Bring used/unwanted equipment & supplies to sell
- Meet up with someone in the parking lot
- BYO drinks & food and just hang out

I'll set up a "community tank" with temperature controlled tap water for keeping bags/cups with frags/fish for people who only have a few things to bring, or if you're meeting up with someone for a pre-arranged transaction.

There's plenty of parking at the building, and it's just off the main road so there is plenty of street parking as well.

Well, things pretty much went completely nuts right after I posted this event!! I had a planned vacation for the first 10 days of July, then in the week after I posted this I got 4 projects, 2 investigations, 5 scrubber orders, and a slew of ATO orders...among other things.

I never got around to posting a FB event or sending out a mass email, etc. So I have not been contacted by anyone who has said they want a table or are even interested in attending.

I'd still like to have an event, and this date is still good for me...

I posted up an event for 7/23 about a month ago, but then things got crazy on my end (slammed with work, then 10 days fully disconnected from the world pretty much) so I didn't get it posted on FB.

I haven't had anyone contact me saying they are interested in a table.

I'm still 100% game for doing it, even if it ends up being only hobbyists bringing frags in a bag or used equipment, etc...whatever

...so...who would come? Who would bring a tank of frags? Who would bring frags in bags? Who would bring some used equipment to sell? Who would just come to hang out and chill?

FYI, I'm going to push this event a week or two. There is some interest but if I was locked into this coming weekend, I'd just cancel it.

I'm going to push this off to 8/6 to allow enough time for getting the word out properly.

Well, with 3 days to go until this event, only @beckerj3 has expressed interest in bringing frags and @Waterrat41 in bringing equipment to sell. On the FB event page, only 3 are "going" and 8 "interested". But if there's not much buying/trading/etc going on, I can't see many people attending.

I'm still up for hosting an event like this at my shop, but I'm thinking that pushing it off into the fall during the more "normal" time frame for events

If you were going to come - sorry!! There'll be another time for sure

That all being said, Jeanette said that if anyone wants some of her frags or just wants to see her tanks (which are really beautiful), she will be there from 11am - 1pm on Saturday, kind of like an open house!

 

Yup, but the positive side is that I'll have the whole shop to myself by the time the fall event rolls around.
