Ok so I got some livestock int he tank this weekend, 2 Clowns and a couple small coral frags, everything "seemed" to be going very well, the clowns eating well and swimming about the tank, the Frog spawn all spread out and looking good...we leave for a couple hours and the one clown is dead and one of the frog Spawn are starting to what I would call shrivle up and dowesn;t look as good as it did,

Any suggestions or is this all common?

    Thanks in advance.

How old is the tank? How did you acclimate the fish?
check all your parameters and report back
    temp
    ph
    salinity
    ammonia
    nitrite
    nitrate

Recheck your params. You have a small tank and swings can be drastic. I can't remember how long it has been running

Ok to clarify Mike did check my stuff BEFORE I bought anythign....but something is amiss now.

    Temp 78.4

    Ph 8.2

    Ammonia 0

    Nitrite 0

    Nitrate 0

Salinity...way high for some reason, So I just removed some water and added RO water. Will check that again after it circulates.

tank has been up for a month or so,

I floated the fish bag for 30 mins or so,

then did a slow drip into the bag from the tank for another 20-25 mins, and I did not dump the water from the bag into the tank,

Odd, when I checked your salinity it was right on with a refractometer. Are you using a hydrometer? Are you rinsing it with fresh water before and after each use? Not saying you are wrong but just want to check everything here.

are you topping off with fresh water?

Yep been using RO to top off so why my Salinity spiked I have no real clue.

What's way high, and did you double check with a refractometer.

Was the water level low when you checked it? Are you running an ATO? I don't know how big your tank is, or your top off schedule, but if you go a few days without topping off, and check salinity when the water level is low I could see it being elevated. Other than that you really shouldn't get much of a noticeable swing in salinity unless you introduce more salt. ????

    How's everything doing today?

The tank is a JBJ 28G

I have beening using RO water to manually top off every couple days, at most a cup or so the tank has a full lid.

I don't have a refractor, but on Friday Mike (GIRS Trustee) checked it with one and it was good, this was after a 20% water change jsut to be ready for fish/coral.

Sunday I check it with my float one and it showed off the chart, so I pulled water out of the tank and added RO water to get it back to what is normally is.

Today the one Frog spawn that was looking kinda strange is looking better and the surviving Clown is swimming about the tank for the most part, some times sitting near the sand jsut haning out near the same Frog Spawn.

So today seems fine, also the Clown is eating jsut fine when I do feed with jsut regular frozen Shrimp, not adding any garlis or anything.

Yeah it almost sounds like you may not of rinsed the hydrometer with fresh water before or after using it and had some residue salt in it.
I checked your water twice with the refractometer
