Just started looking into LED lighting to plan for the future, and I have a quick question on the SOL lights.  What is the difference between the SOL white and blue units?

the difference between the SOL white and blue units is white has 2 white and 1 blue where the blue has 1 white and 1 blue and 1 royal blue in it.
    hope that helps

So what's the difference between having 2 whites versus 1 and a royal blue?

Thats basically a preference thing there. With 2 whites you will have a brighter tank and with 1 white 1 blue and 1 royal blue you will get a bluer look with more actinics. To me going with the blue would be better simple because you can adjust both the blue and whites intensiveness

The white in the SOL blue is strong enough. And to have two different blue lights allows to really make the colors glow in you tank.  I just switched from a 20k MH to the SOL blue, and the LED's are so much better. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Can't the sol whites also be adjusted to decrease the white light?

ya you have full control over white light. I have a sol white on mine and Ill never use a different type of light.

So as I like my tank around the 14k-15k range right now, whiter light, the SOL white would be the best bet?

Generally the reason for the 2 whites vs the 1 white has to do with the type of white leds used.  When a 1:1 ratio is used it is usually a cree(or equiv) cool white led.  when mixed 1:1 it tends to give a little more of a blue appearance then compared to MH.  When they do 2:1 it is usually 2 cree natural white led and these tend to look less blue and more like MH.  All personal preference really on which look you like better.  To me I like the 1:1 it really makes the corals pop, but the 2:1 makes it look a little more natural and clear looking but you lose a little of the pop on the corals.
