I got my bean animal set up over the weekend from MJB. (And yes, it is beautiful) I have one plumbing question. So this is what I have temporarily in place:

    Threaded connector to PVC adapter

    Length of 1" PVC

    Ball Valve

    Length of 1" PVC

    90° toward sump

    Length of 1" PVC

    90° down into sump

I need to be able to disconnect everything once it's glued, so I was thinking of adding something like this:

I'll probably add it under the ball valves. Any thoughts or concerns? I'm not great at PVC work, so I want to make I do this right.

Looks good to me. I always recommend buying the expensive ball valves. Cheap ones wont move in time.

Unions, and union ball valves are always good to have in the plumbing wherever possible.

I used the exact same thing in my new setup and I am so very happy I did.

    Great Idea to do!

Ug. I tested everything Monday night and it worked great, so I started gluing last night. After creating the two sections divided by the union I look over and see the union collars laying there. I realized right away that I should have slid them on before gluing the union cap. %$#$%$#$!!! So I made another $40 trip to Home Depot last night. Really ready for this new tank to be done.

Yep I imagine that happens frequently. I've done it, but I was using threaded unions so I just had to unscrew and put the nut on.

how did it turn out? From what I've been reading you want to put a union at the beginning of each section so you can remove/replace each section instead of the whole thing? How are you also plumbing the return piping?

I was actually able to salvage it. Found a spot where I could make a clean miter cut and then went back to HomeDepot (my new home away from home) and just bought some couplers. Put the collars in place and glued everything back together and it's working now. Still need to fine tune everything. Return pump is a Mag 9.5, but it doesn't seem to be pushing the flow it should be. I noticed it did that before because it had sucked itself up against the sump glass, but now I have the foam filter on. I'll have to do some testing.

I'll post pictures tomorrow. Hoping with the long weekend I can actually get the new tank set up, but with so much going on I might have to wait.
