As of tonight now 100% of the replacement visitherms from Marineland to replace the stealths failed.  Thats 7 replacements now. All stuck on. No fatalities thank goodness. My 75g felt warm, checked temp with my probe, 85 and climbing, pulled the heater, was set at 77. Be careful if you have these. Im thinking for now no heater, we keep the ambient pretty steady. Could this be why the nem is looking bleached and I have an algae outbreak, all of a sudden?[IMG]

You'll sleep better with a temp controller.

A basic controller is a must have to prevent problems like this.

Depends on what exactly you are looking for. There are mainstream reef controllers like the Digital Aquatics Reef-Keeper and the Neptune Apex. IMO if you are spending the money on a temp controller you may as well spend the extra couple bucks for a basic tank controller. There is a company that make good temp controllers too, if you are set on getting just that, but the name is eluding me at the moment.
EDIT: Finnex and Won Borthers are the two better brands. You end up paying about $80 for those though, while a ReefKeper Elite goes for about $110 which gives you a lot more at your disposal, plus you can add on to it if your needs change.

Thank you! will look into this.  $110 is nothing compared to what I need to save in these tanks.

Or you can look into Ranco controllers. They're a pretty accurate temp controller. I haven't owned one, this is just what I've heard. I love my Eheim Jager heaters, they never fluctuated more than a degree swing.

CALL MARINELAND!!! I've been talking with them about warranty on replacement stock for what the heater did.The same thing happened to my wires tank after the power company issue. It cooked everything though. The lady I talked to didn't seem to surprised.

I have a ranco temp controller but they vary plus or minus a degree. I have the ranco on my qt tank which work's good but if your gonna spend the money on a ranco in my opinion you might as well buy a reef keeper light.
The nice thing abought the reef keeper light  is that you can control heaters, fans, lights or even a wavemaker for 2 pump's. they have 4 outlet's just as long as you don't exceed 15 amp. If interested look up digital aquatics and you can see what it offer's.
If you plan on expanding in the future such as calcium reactor or want email alert's or remote acess such as from droid phone i would buy a better system such as the netune system's apex or the reef keeper elite. Another option would be to find a neptune system's ac jr or ac3 if you just want the basics.
One last note. The only thing i dont like abought the reef keeper light is the fact that your temp reading's tend to jump back and forth 1 tenth of a degree or so but the temp in my tank stay's right at 77 where i have it set.

I have an AC3 that I will sell you for $200 if you want. It will control 8 separate devices and monitor temp. It just needs a new pH probe (about $30 from BRS)

Great price.  I agree with the the comments that if you're going to spend money on a temp controller, you should spend a little more and get a more full functioned controller.  AC3 is a solid controller.
