So I think I have to start dosing two part automatically. At first I tried manually. Then I tried manually with kalk in the ATO. None of these seem to be keeping up with the demands of my system any more. :( Stupid SPS corals.

What equipment do you use for your 2 part dosing? Just the regular BRS doser? Anyone buy the special containers that notify you when the liquid is low? Are they worth it?

I have used BRS dosers and also apex DOS and bubble magus dosers. All worked just fine for me. Main workhorse was the BM doser and I replaced the tubing every 8 months or so.

I never needed containers that alerted me when low. My containers were in the stand and they lasted months, I just looked at them when changing filter socks and would fill up when about 2/3 empty.

We use esv bionic 2 part and magnesium and dose using a jebao 4 head doser. Doser couldn't work better, we love it. Super easy, reliable, and cheap. I know all of those don't usually go together but we took the plunge after reading many reviews and glad we did.

We have the jaebo 4 head dosers that work fine. We use empty vinegar jugs and use "Randy's recipe" for alk and calcium. We also dose vinegar in both tanks.

    4th head also doses vinegar.

Not trying to highjack the thread but when do you decide is the right time to add a 2 part doser? I only have 4 or 5 small SPS frags in my 120 gallon tank but can they still grow faster with dosing or are they fine as is with the large volume of water and only a few small frags?

Those damn SPS lol. I run Bubble Magnus triple head dosers on both tanks. They work great. I change tubing on heads every year.
I have also used BRS Doses those work good to. Same maitnance on those. Tube change annually.
I just use the BRS gallon jugs. I refill when they are low.

For me it was when kalk and water changes could not keep up with the demand.

I dose BRS 2 part and vodka all with BRS dosers controlled with my Apex. Just using gallon jugs from BRS as the containers no alerts or warnings jugs are clear so easy to see when they need refilling.

Is there a reason not many people run a calcium reactor?

I think not as many Ca reactors just do to initial cost and complication. Bulk 2 part is cheap and dosers have really come down in price. Easy to setup the dose too, just average daily depletion and put in a calculator. Not that Ca reactors are not good - they get almost mandatory in huge reef systems, but are some serious cash to start and considerably more complex along with (generally) taking up more room.

They are great if you get them diled in correctly. But some are really finicky to get a constant drip rate. Also if the solenoid on the regulator sticks open it will crash a tank in a hurry. There are was around this if you have a apex.

Alright thanks for the responses. I have 3 different reactors I'm going to set up on a apex on my 3 separate tanks. Just wonder if there was a downfall to them since everyone seems to dose.

Be sure to run them on their own feed pump. And plug the feed pump into your apex eb8. Then program that plug to shut of if ph drops to low. That way if solenoid sticks open and dumps co2 into reactor the apex will shut down feed pump and save your tank.

I know if my tank was 200 gallons or larger I would have went with CA reactor hooked to an Apex with the fail safes in place Bill mentioned.
I went with 2 part because of the lower initial cost.
