Im in the process of upgrading to a 40br. From my 27 cube. Im currently building my custom stand that will display my main 40 on top and a 20 long on bottom. Now what im looking for are ideas on the 20 long. Iwant a refugium in the front with a false wall or something to hide the return and overflow areas of the sump/fuge to make it look like its simply a disply refugium.i have ideas but not real sure on what will actually work. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Here is how mine is laid out. Only the fuge can be seen from the front of the stand. The skimmer section is actually more beside the tank than under it. But my sump is a 24" x 48" footprint. This type of layout would be really hard to do with something as norrow as the 20L. You start dividing that width wise and you quickly run out of room. You could just try to black out the compartments you don't really want to see. Black acrylic makes nice dividers when you don't want to see whats on the other side.

I like your concept. So did you use the black acrylic on the front of the skimmer section. What size tank would you recommend i use? I thought about using a seperate sump behind the fuge for my return and skimmer/overflow section.

You could just use some black spray paint and black out the front of the sections you don't want to show.

The skimmer section isn't really visable from the front of the stand so its not blacked out. All the dividing walls and bubble traps are black acrylic. The sides are clear acrylic.

I would use whatever size tank you can fit and that works for your equipment.
