After a short hiatus from the hobby side of the business while we finished our house and landscaping we decided to go big. Just orderd a 350 gallon  84" x 32" x 30" going in the wall in our family room in the basement.  2 viewable sides both starphire glass.  Should be setup and running by the end of the year if everything goes to plan.  I'll try to add updates as progress moves along.
Does anyone know if you have to pay a duty tax when Miracles is in Canada and we are in the US?  This tank is costing 4k plus any tax we will be charged for importing it?

Sounds like an awesome tank!! Will it have overflows in the center or on each end? Interested in hearing more about your plans...

Not as far as I know. I have a Miracles tank coming in about a month, so I'll let you know. I got quoted a price with shipping included to Ankeny, I would think that they would cover or disclose those costs. I think they said that the exchange rate was to their advantage but the international shipping kind of cancelled that advantage out. So I think they pay that. Same as if you order something from China on ebay, it's included in the shipping price. you only pay duty at the border.

It will have 1 overflow on the short end that is not visible with a tunze wave box on each side of the overflow.  The wave box's and overflow will be flush across the side to give a very clean look.  Going for no visible plumbing or pumps except for 1 or 2 controllable stream pumps hopefully hidden in the open concept rockwork.  Your probably wondering why I'm not going with vortechs?  My biggest issue is noise I've had both tunze and vortechs and I can't stand the revving up and down that you can hear from the vortechs in a queit room the Tunze are much quieter IMO.  The only thing I am worried about is the noise from the wave gushing over the overflow I may do something with a sponge along the inside of the overflow to prevent the splashing noise.  Lighting is 3 LumenMax elite 400 watt mogul 12k Reeflux on Lumatek ballast (I have the option to run 250 or 400 watt bulbs with these ballast).  Sump noise will be kept to a min by sound insulating the wall surrounding the tank into my office which is on the backside of the tank and now my filtration room/office[IMG]

I may, Derek at miracles is recommending that I have 6 guys to move it comfortably.  Empty tank is coming in at almost 750lbs

Nah, not wondering why not Vortechs.  Vortechs and Tunze pumps each have their strong points and if you have your tank is in a quiet area and are going for clean, super quiet look, I can understand the Tunze decision.  The water acts as a significant sound baffle for the Tunze pumps making them super quiet.  Our family room where my tank is at isn't  the quietest room and the whirr from the Vortechs isn't really noticeable to me.  Also, as for the clean look, it's certainly easier to hide a pump in rock work than it is to hide one that's attached to the glass.   Especially when Tunze already sell their deco rocks for hiding their pumps.
I know someone else posted about it, but Tunze also published some research about flow vs turbulence which speaks to more differences between the two brands of pumps.  Just goes to show that each have their own strong suits.

So heres where the 350 is going in our basement family room.  The entire shelf you see is comming out and the tank will be framed to look like a built-in.  Were hoping to have the entire project completed by the first of the new year. I"ll update this thread as progress goes.

Just a quick update on the build,
Got the electric ran, one dedicated 20 amp circuit for the tank to 2 GFCI outlets along with one GFCI outlet ran off of the office breaker. Equipment will be split up between the 3 GFCI outlets spread over the 2 circuits so if one circuit or GFCI trips it will only shut down part of the system. 2 smaller return pumps and 2 heaters one on each circuit as well will give me some redundancy while away.

Also here’s a pic of what the wall now looks like.

You don't have to pay anything extra. Derek will always give you a shipped price for whatever you are buying. Congrats on the tank and keep us up to date! /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Yep supposed to be plenty.  There is three 2"x6"' screwed and glued together to make the 84" header across the back.  A single 2x6 is supposed to be able to carry a full 72" span based on my research on RC
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/s...id=1169964 tons of info here on stand building if your interested.[IMG]

Thanks guys for all the feedback and compliments. I'm going to drywall the inside of the stand as well to keep it clean, also going to try to get the air exchanger duct work done today above the tank. Stay tuned next week for the sump build......
