    Thank you Andy.

Much awesomer in person...... Seeing the way they interact with people is crazy.

What's going on in my basement has been 5 years of work. Building and rebuilding filtration systems, learning how to care for these things hasn't been easy, not much help out there when they get sick. I'm very proud of the group of animals swimming down there. And the fact they reproduce tells me I must be doing something right.

The most amazing part to me is what I've gotten to cohab with the rays...... There's an MBU in one of the ray tanks. I also have a monster in the 750- Hoplias Aimara. The most aggressive freshwater fish on the planet. It lives happily with the rays and many other fish in there, but put a siphon, algae scraper, or your hand in there and it just snaps.

If anyone's ever passing through Clear Lake, I'm right off I35 if anyone wants to stop in and take a look. I gaurentee there's got to be some stuff here that you've never seen, and may never again.

The Yellow spotted ones are rare. Best of my knowledge prior to me and a buddy importing a batch the only ones we know of here in the states swim in Dr Richard Ross's tanks, the guy that's wrote books on freshwater rays.

Who would have thought there would be some swimming right here in Iowa???? lol. Hoping they reproduce this year.

I've had probably a half dozen litters over the years. My first born is still with me. I sold her once and felt horrible about it, had to buy her back.... She's going on 4 years old now. I don't have litters very often, nor are they big litters. Most of the rays here are Marbled Motoros, though putting the name "motoro" on the end is almost an insult to them. Marbles are much nicer looking, they stay smaller, they are more delicate, much harder to breed, and when they do breed they don't have very many pups. IF you were to breed rays for $ Marbles would be the very last rays you'd want. But in my opinion they are some of the nicest rays out there and it seems every generation they're captive bred they seem to get nicer.

There's a M/F pair of pups here now that were just born 3 weeks ago.... Nothing cuter in the world then newborn baby rays......

I haven't always had rays, started out with a 10 gallon tank just like everyone else. The problem is once you have rays the evolution of a raykeeper begins. The tanks get bigger as the pasion grows and just gets worse and worse year after year. What does this mean? It means that anything less then 180 gallon tank isn't much use unless you turn it into a filter. I have no idea how many tanks are here not in use. I have a garage with an upstairs that's just full of stuff.... 15s, 20s, 55s, a 72, a 75, some 125s, a pair of 180s. I don't do real well dealing with people on the internet after pics of everything, but stop by to see the fish, browse all the stored stuff, and who knows, maybe you'll leave with something..... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I have a crazy amount of stuff here I don't really need, but keep around cause I might need it someday.... Like a half dozen AC 110 filters.

As much as I love saltwater since I have gotten into it I began with freshwater like everyone else. Always wanted a monster tank with some big fish. I had a 75 that I put two gar in that I caught myself on the river, had them for about a year and they out grew the tank, i thought they were damn cool. Man what I would do to have at least ONE monster tank. What's your set up on filters on those big tanks?

Easiest way to explain dimensions - scratch the superman bit. Footprint wise think 78x18 rectangle, add a right triangle onto it. Tank is a lil shy of 57 front to back of triangle. 30" tall. External measurements.

Really have no way to send cell phone pics so will just make a new post once I get the thing moved and better pics taken.

To answer the filter question - All the tanks here are ran off filters I built. Big tank has (4) 7x16 200/100 micron socks housed in 2 55gallon tanks that have bags of ceramic rings (around 40lbs) they dump into a pair of 55 gallon drum moving bed filters (K1 media, pondmaster AP100 air pump) then to 2 pot scrubbie filled bio towers, down to sump (300 gallon pond) pair of Dart return pumps. Other smaller system is similar, just no moving bed or wet/dry (biotower) yet,

The moving bed filter alone on the big tank should be good for up to 3-4lb/day feedings. Probably more then I'd feed all the rays put together IF they were all full grown. Wet/dry and rings are there cause moving beds suck when you use meds, and the rings and scrubbies can be moved with the rays if I need to kickstart another tank, and help offset changes in bio load when they're moved around.

Systems here are drip fed - new water going in all the time. Guessing around 150 gpd on the big tank, 75 gpd on the small system. Have had water bills in the 5 digit+ neighborhood when fighting illness. Water company used to call about stuff leaking, but eventually they caught on, and now, well they love us. Have to be the best residential customer around these parts..... lol

Yeah, will probably set it up. At this point no ones made any offers, and I'm not gonna just let it sit.

Open to offers..... If I get a good one it can go, if not I'll set it up.

No delivery. Getting this thing here cost me a waterpump in a Ford 6.0. Half the fun of buying big tanks is getting them home. I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of such an enjoyable experience..... lol
