I just picked up my new cube today. Planning on building stand this weekend. Starting to put together list of things to get. I was thinking about getting a algea scrubber for this project. My question is does one need a protein skimmer. I am building this project brand new and I have read that some people dont use a skimmer with their scrubber and also they dont have the need for reactors either and use their scrubber as their main source of filtration. Was looking for input before I start buying stuff for my build. Thanks for your input in advance.

talk to Floyd R Turbo for info on ATS. I personally use a skimmer as my main source of filtration but i also run a ATS on my tank. I use the ATS as a "backup" source of filtration. I could probably get away without using a skimmer but i will keep using my skimmer also since i already have it set up.

Wonder how many of us have 60 cubes now? It is a pretty L33T club.

We should start a secret handshake.

I love the look of cubes. Nice choice.

I don't think you're going to find a strait answer on the "need" to run a skimmer with the ATS. Some do, and some don't. What I would say is since you are starting the system new is leave room for adding a skimmer later, but run it without the skimmer and see how it does. If you feel the need for a skimmer later on, then add one at that time.
