Looking to buy some filter socks . Where is the best place to buy some. Is there a difference between types of material used. What were some of the most effective types.

Only difference Ive seen is mesh vs felt. I started with felt and didnt like how often I had to clean them so I tried the mesh. Didnt like them. Too much stuff got by. So back to felt. Ive seen a few DIY on making them if you are handy. BRS is where I get mine.

I use the 7 inch 200 micron BRS socks. Only complaint is that I have to change them every other day or so or it overflows. They also have 7 inch mesh filter socks I like. It helps catch any bigger debris but lets small stuff through. I am currently running no socks and just the coarse foam block in my trigger sump.

I have Elite Aquatics Rs40 sump that came with mesh socks so I bought the felt ones from BRS but the Elite socks snap in place so no water can bypass them and the BRS ring is different and doesn't fit as tight letting water drip all around the ring so now I switched back to the Elite socks.

BRS and felt. Even when I got the trigger sump, the 7" were a pain to stuff down there so I went with the smaller size but I still stuck with felt. Takes a week for the 7" to get partially full and 3 days for the 4" to get full. Wait til I have a load of them and then toss them in the washer with some bleach and warm water, double extra rinse, let them dry out and good to go.
