Though I typicaly build my own stands I bought a raw stand from a friend on here that had won a stand built by kpotter. After looking at it I could tell it was well built and it came home with me. My wife and I love antiques so I decided to make this look "old". The raw stand is made of pine and mohogany plywood. I then took it cut a large access panel in the front and framed it. This panel is then held on with velcro so it is easy to remove and deal with the sump. The base color is blue with a flat black "peel" look paint. The sea horse and embelishments are gold leaf paint & I then applied 2 coats furniture wax.

I got my tank filled up tonight and will try and post a pic when the water clears up. Hopefuly tomorrow. Hope you like.[IMG] Mike

Looks real good and I am glad to see other enjoying my work and improving it too. Did you know if you remove the side screws the whole skin will come off the 2x4 base stand or did you do the panel thing to make it even easier? Good Idea and Have told others you can even put doors on my skins.

    Thanks very much for sharing.

No, I did not know it would come off like that... should have figured that out as that was the only hardware that wasn't hidden. Yes, the panel I put on the front comes off and I can get at everything underneath.

Yeah its a skin. So take out screws and the front and sides come off and you are free and clear to do what ever you want.
    Good work!
