I saw your light fixture in your build thread, it is sweet!  I would look into it but I still have my AI modules left from my previous tank so I plan on incorporating them into the new build.

Sone, looks like an awesome build! Let me know if you ever need any help or anything. Also, we should probably get together so you can start to hand off the treasurer stuff...

I just looked up some of the specs on that 300DD it actually is a little scary. They only use 12mm glass which isn't even 1/2" and none of the panels are tempered. The 350 I got from miracles is 3/4" glass all around and the bottom is also tempered which makes it 3-4 times stronger that regular 3/4" glass, Derek highly recommended that it be tempered on that size tank. That tank only weighs 460lbs empty the one miracles built for me weighs in at about 750lbs. If I am wrong on this information someone correct me but it is taken directly from marineland's website.

I'd like to hear about your plan for a continuous water change with the Litermeter. I have a Litermeter III and two satellites liter meters. right now I'm using the satellites for two part. I think if I had continuous water change going on that I wouldn't need the two part. I'm dosing it just about as low as a Litermeter can go anyway, and that's low. What's your plan on the water change set-up?

The tank is already ordered and I got a good deal on it but thanks for the tip on the Fish Shack.  My tank is going to be in-wall but I am going to have access from the front so I will be able to reach anywhere in my tank from all 4 sides.

Thanks, Joe!  I'll PM you and to see when we will have time to get together to transition things over to you.

I have seen at least 8 build threads on RC with 300g DD tanks and none of them has failed thus far.  In the case of your tank, it is probably overbuilt and the Marinelands are built well just enough to support it.  I would have gone with another Miracles tank but Derek wanted at least $1500 more and I would have waited at least 4-6 weeks to get my tank.

    Great info.
I use the Eheim 3581 auto-feeders.  I wish that I could control them with my Apex as I've found the internal clocks on them to drift a little.  Aside from that, they are great feeders.  I use two...one for small pellets and one for flakes.  They have a twin feeder that I may give a try at some point that allows two separate kinds of food to be dispensed from the same feeder...but again, no Apex control capabilities.
I really need to get a Litermeter. I've never heard of anyone saying anything negative about them and I really like the idea of a continuous water change. Would you use that for both to ATO and your water change? Obviously different pumps...

Hi Jim, Matt Nelsen is using the system now so you will probably get better input from him.  The way I understand the concept is that you will need a water exchange module and a remote pump module to make it work.  One pump will draw water out of the system while the other one replenishes it from your container of mixed saltwater.

Since they work equally well to push fluid and to pull it, I think I could just pull water out and send it to a drain and push water up from a reservoir. The third Litermeter would take care of evaporation just like always. I can't see that there would be any less evaporation with that system. I don't know Matt Nelsen. What's his handle here?

No Problem just throwing it out there. $1500 more sounds about right.
I’m still waiting for my water change pumps as well.  I'm going to be doing 50 gal weekly with 2 1000ml/min perstaic pumps.  They will located in my utility room by my mixing tank.  A water change will take about 3.5 hours to complete but will only involve pressing a switch and should be unnoticeable to the tanks inhabitants.
When you guys are doing countiunous water changes around the clock how do you figure in your fresh water (kalk) topoff or do you not worry about it then.

I plan on using the same black film background from my previous tanks, they go on like window tint.  I am going to put them on lexan panels and them put them up against the glass.  I may use some double-sided tape or magnets to keep them attached but I have not gotten to that point yet.
I am guessing the 400W XM 20Ks will be brighter and have more intensity than the AIs.  I believe the AIs are only supposed to be equivalent to 250W MH.  No worries on the PAR meter, I have one.
It's possible that Bud might be able to do something with it but I didn't want to take the risk.
Bummer on the Eheim feeder not being able to be controlled by the Apex.
The Litermeter has a pump built in so that will continue to top off the tank and dose kalk into the system.  The 2 pumps I need will be plugged into the Litermeter so it can be controlled but all the pumps will work independently.

Cool, you'll have to let me know how you like that system.
Top off will not change.  If my tank evaporates 3 gallons a day, I would set the Litermeter to dose 3 gallons of RO water per day.  The Litermeter doses the tank 150 times in a  24 hour period so the changes are minimal and it does nothing to the top off rate.

Check this out...here's a feeder that could be Apex controlled...

    http://prostores1.carrierzone.com/servlet/super-feed_com/-strse-140/automatic-fish-feeder-for/Detail

It also has an aux out that can trigger a switch port on your Apex as a check just to make sure that your outlet didn't get stuck on...and if it does, to alert you. Interesting.

Thanks for the link, AJ! I will have to do some more research on it and give it a serious consideration when the time comes to get one. I love posting threads like this and getting feedback from members. I think we all benefit by having these conversations. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Sone, why don't you just use 1/8" black acrylic instead of tint on lexan? 1/8" extruded black is cheap.

    Sone -

We have a house, but when we were buying it was when we found out we were pregnant with first kid, then second kid, and now we realize it isn't meant for us and 2 kids haha. but we can't sell for another year due to the first time buyers thing we did, or if we do sell we have to pay back the prorated amount of 8000 bucks and I don't like giving money back /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif but gives me time to plan a system another system and get a list going and price points.

also on a different note, whats your thoughts on a new pet/fish store in osky?? We don't have anything around here to service the osky/pella/ottumwa area really. Its something I've been thinking about for a while now, especially with the ups and downs Pella has been having
