I have some that have outgrown their plug but I was not sure what their growth habit was. the polyps do look like they are encrusting over the edge. I do not want to place directly on rock if they encrust. I most on my sand bed now but if left on my sand bed, how would they grow?

    thanks!

The tissue extends out as it grows and then it forms skeleton under each new head for support. They are best kept on sand-beds from what I have read and experienced with mine. They don't need rock structure to adhere to as they build their own support as they grow.

But I will add that on rock they will extend the tissue much like encrusting montipora and not build their own skeleton. I think they grow faster that way but the frag I let do that I don't think looks as good as those on the sand.

perfect! thanks! will leave them on the sand bed. was worried the new growth would die off from the substrate.
