Advice? Acans

    Just recently over the past two weeks my acans have slowly been dying but nothing else is. I know my numbers are low but this is what they read
    CA 320 red sea
    MG 1300 red sea
    Alk 6.67 Hanna
    1.0255
    I just don't get why just the acans are stressing when nothing else is. I do weekly water changes the last month I skipped one of them because of life. Just seeing some input from the club.

    I've never had an acan I didn't melt...

    Well i had these guys from 2 or 3 heads to about 30 over a year period. So they were doing amazing. But now they are dying 2 or three heads a day but everything else is ok. I just dipped them and moved them to a newish tank i just set up hopefully it's not to new.

    When my phosphates and Cal got too low one of my Acans melted away. Id say my acans are the most sensitive thing in my tank to any change other than my Monti Cap. It's basically my tank canary, I can't kill the thing despite my attempts but it changes fastest when somethings wrong or in flux.

    Also any temp swings of 8-9 degrees? I had that happen once and it took out an Acan.

    Your ca and alk are really low, might be the issue.

    They are low but are alkalinity and calcium stable? My acans are really sensitive to alkalinity swings.

    I did try to dose 2 part but I don't think I did it right because it's still low. So that's why I'm doing the water changes every other day now to get the numbers back up slowly.

    What 2 part are you using? How much did you dose?
    Make sure you dose each part 10 minutes apart to prevent it from precipitating out.
    Raise alkalinity only
    .5 dhk per day otherwise gonna have more problems. Calcium 50 ppm per day.

    I used brs 2 part. The whole dosing thing doesn't make sense i think I'm just making it more complicated than it is. I think my tank will be able to use kalk just by it self without the 2 part.

    Are you using LED's? I couldn't keep acans alive with them. I switched to a t5 metal halide combo and I'm pretty sure that did the "trick".

    I used led since I got them but recently switched to t5s in February.

    2 part is one of easiest things to dose. They have the reef calculator right on the sight. Plug in the numbers dump in proper dosages.

    Acans HATE ammonia or newer/less established tanks. If you are doing water changes daily you are likely have ammonia flashes to cycle the water. This can usually take place when lights are off and PH dips.

    Ok so update i ended up throwing the acans in the newer tank and it seems like the dying has stopped (now I say this they just instantly kick the bucket) and they are more fluffy and I had one sps die because a touch was touching it. And i ended up putting kalk in the auto top off so hopefully through water changes and the kalk i can get the numbers back.

    I noticed my acans are fluffier and better looking at the lower end of the temp range. I run my main tank at 79 and while color was always good, they were always very flat. I moved them to frag tank just to see if they would improve and they looked great within 2 days.
    A couple days later I noticed my Zoa colonies were not opening, which led to the discovery I had inadvertently unplugged the heater. A couple days later the Zoas looked great but the acans were flat again. Now I run the frag tank at 76. Acans look OK and Zoas are happy.
