Just something to stimulate a little conversation. Has anyone ever taken Molly's and acclimated them to SW? If so would you have to worry about QT'ing them since the diseases they could have from fresh water would not necessarily survive in a SW environment. I have read that their fry is great corals and fish food. I am all about the free food./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/w00t.gif

For me I would QT just because that is standard protocol. Just curious what others think.

I tried acclimating Mollies twice. One time the super slow way taking 10 days and one time a faster (but still fairly slow) way, taking 2 days. They croaked on me a couple days after adding them to the main DT after acclimation.

So I ended up just buying some from GARF.org. I was getting a clean up crew anyway, so I got some of their mollies that had been aquacultured by GARF and were born in saltwater.

I didn't put any of them in the main DT this time as I decided I really didn't like the look of them in with the salt water fish. Too much cognitive dissonance. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif But I was interested in them for my frag tank for algae control. A word of warning, they have no instinct at all and the ones I put in the little DT with the RBTA were gone the next day. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wow.gif The ones I put in my "frag" tank are doing great, controlling algae, and pooping and having babies like crazy to feed the corals.

I bought a bunch of fresh water mollies...black, sunburst and silver lyertails from pet co...brought them home, put them in a small pail with the water they came with in it and set it in a 5g bucket. Put tank water to the rim of the jollies pail.. then dripped s-water in for about 3 Hrs. I had an air pump and a small heater in the bucket. Got about 3 gallon in the bucket and let them swim around for awhile. Then dumpped the fish into my sump and frag tank. I took them out after 4 months due to them being a VERY dirtY fish.

I have done this Many times, even back to fresh water. If you get a female that is prego works the best. Acclimate the prego and the babies servive alot better then the acclimated fish. I like the looks of the all orange sailfins the best. I'm doing all fresh water tanks now and breeding different colors of mollies...
