I bought a Royal Flasher Wrasse and he is a beauty. Unfortunately he jumped out of his acclamation box and was in the main tank. He was happy until the Eibli started to pick on him and then he went into hiding. He was being chased pretty hard tonight so I managed to catch him and get him back in the acclimation box only this time I put netting on top with a rubber band. Will the Eibli continue to pick on the wrasse if I let him out after a few days? I don't think I can catch the Eibli with out a trap. If I do catch him and put him in a holding tank for a while, if I put him back in the main tank will he start to pick on the wrasse again? I have a Randall Goby, a Copperband, a Blackcap Basslet and an Orange Back Wrasse in my tank and they are all getting along fine. The Blackcap is also new but Eibli mainly picks on the Royal Flasher. I did not see this behavior in him until the new fish.

    That is strange.

I know pygmy angels can be somewhat territorial, maybe it is the coloring of the wrasse.

Usually they get over it in a day or two. The main thing is can the wrasse survive the day or two? Can the angel see the wrasse in the acclimation tank? If not, that may help for a day or two so it can kind of get used to it.

Good luck, they are beautiful fish.

We have had to trap our powder blue tang and banish to the sump for a couple weeks to add a new fish. Never have a problem when we put him back in after the new fish is added.

The Eibli can see the wrasse in his acclimation box. I am just afraid when I put the wrasse back in the Eibli will attack him again. He was pretty vicious. I am thinking of getting a fish trap. The sump is a good idea. Do you think if I do catch the Eibli and get him into the sump, when I put him back in the main tank and if he starts to be mean again, will he be stupid enough to fall for the trap a second time?

Ok, thanks.... Looks like I will be ordering a fish trap. Aqua medic looks good or is there a better one out there?

You can make one pretty easy out of a 2L pop bottle. Cut off big end, tie a fish string on it, put it in there with some food. They will get used to it, then bam, caught fish

I have a Rusty that is just a huge pain with fish that are smaller than it is. He would be fine while they were in an acclimation box, but once they were in the tank he was a school yard bully. I finally had to get a tang larger than him to put him in his place.........so good luck :)

@Maureen@Maureen , have you asked around the forum to see if anybody else has one of those fish traps that you could use or buy for a discount? I have a problem with a Damsel pecking at my pulsing xenia and I'm trying to catch him with coke bottles but haven't had any luck yet. I was going to see if anybody on this forum was willing to trade/sell or let me borrow a fish catching rig but haven't asked around yet.

If my homemade trap does not work I will need to use a commercial one. Before I go out and buy one I am wondering if the club has one it loans out to members? It would be well worth the membership fee for new members and old if we could borrow one from the club?

YEAH! The homemade trap I made worked. Now my question is that the largest part of my sump holds the pump. Should I worry about the Eibli getting sicked into it? Should I put the Eibli in the acclamation box in the sump just to be safe?

    wow that was quick.

I would worry about the pump, you never know. Any chance you can put some foam around it? Any smaller area of the sump?

For now I took the Wrasse out of the acclamation box and put him into the main tank and put the Eibli in sump in the acclamation box with the netting over the top. I will have to find something to block the intake on the pump. I think no matter where I put him in the sump I will have to make the pump safe just in case he finds his way to that area, it all flows to the pump so it would be natural to end up there.

I made a trap with a Sunny Delight bottle, I did not have a clear pop container so it is semi clear. I made it so the clip I put nori on is fastened inside the bottom of it with a string that I can loosen and pull out to put new nori on it. The Eibli is the only one that really loves nori in my tank. Next I attached string to the top of the bottle and waited for him to take the bait. He is a big Eibli and loves to eat so he wasted little time going for his favorite treat. I pulled the string and he was caught!

I caught the damsel today also that I have been trying to catch for a few days now. I have a 6 inch wide net that I decided to put in the tank every time I feed them. I would drop the food right into the net and whoever was daring enough to go into the net and get food got some. After 2 days the Damsel couldn't take it anymore and decided to go into the net also and get food and I scooped him out with 3 other fish as well. I then made sure the other 3 got back into the tank safe before putting the Damsel into a quarantine tank.

@Maureen@Maureen a quick way to make your pump safe is to take some egg crate and make a small box to go around it, or at least the intake. I've done this before in a pinch to protect a naughty, banished to the sump fish.
