Why not just upgrade the sols to the Vegas for $200 each? If you *can* sell it all for $600 its pretty much a wash, but typically I see them sell for closer to the $250 mark. Plus with buying the upgrade you get everything but a heat sink and power supply. Those are easy and cheap enough to get I bet you could "re-make" a sol and sell it for damn near the cost of the upgrade. Its the route I have been considering with my Sols if I decide to upgrade.

I'm going to be doing this very soon. Not sure it's justifiable but I need something new and "techy" to keep me from being bored with my tank.

I did the Vega upgrade and then purchased a black sol conversion kit which had a heatsink and new fan for a 100 each. took all of the old leds and circuit board and put them in a the new heat sinks. So now I have Vegas on my old reef tank and I have the sol's on my cube.So long story short I have 600 in Converting my Sol's to Vegas and have two more made out of the old parts from my upgrade. Two SOL'S And Two Vegas for 600.Instead of 499 each for the Vegas. Took 20 minutes to do the upgrade on each one, pretty easy.

Sorry to hijack this thread. Roman, what did you use for power supplies? Buying new "AI" brand power supplies for $50 apiece kind of sours the deal.

You use the same power supply with the exception of the lead wire in which you do not need due to them being wireless I have that system running right now. You do need the wireless controller though.

If you purchase the upgrade you can opt to add power supplies for $20 or $25 bucks. In some cases, like mine, the power supllies are necessary anyway since I have the original sol power supply and the vegas/hydras take a newer one.

Oh I see. According to the picture I already have the correct power supplies. I didn't know they were that much cheaper when ordering them with the kit. If you order them seperate they ding you for $50 a piece.

My plan is to upgrade my current SOL whites to Vega colors and then rebuild the SOL whites and either sell them to offset the costs of the upgrade or keep them and run them on my dart frog vivarium.
