I've been running AI Vegas for a few weeks now and am very satisfied with the results. I was running sol whites for the last couple years prior and was having issues with sps growth as well as color.
When I first installed the Vegas I was disappointed because they seemed to be not as bright as the sol whites from a visual perspective. I was actually considering selling them and going back to the sols because of it but I decided to give them a shot and wait it out.
3 weeks have passed and almost all of my sps has colored up very nicely. I am very suprised how much of a difference the lights have made.
Now that I have color again I hope good growth will follow.

Good to hear things are looking better.
I'm planning on upgrading all mine, but still deciding between the Hydra and the Vega. Maybe I'll get 2 of each and do a side by side comparison....

I run my Vegas at 100 percent for a good part of the day. I'm not sure the hydras would have enough oomph. I should also note the Vegas upgrade comes with the frosted optics and violet rather than regular blue. It would be cool to see them side by side.

It would be interesting to see a side by side comparison. Rated output is the same at 95w, and I have heard this rumor of the hydra not being as powerful as the Vega. But how much of that is due to the frosted optics, or just the different arrangement of LEDs. I think the vega runs a higher wattage on the white channel, or at least the LED is capable of more output depending on how hard they have it pushed. The hydra really favors the blue down into the UV spectrum though. Less, but more efficient royal blue LEDs, 4 Very deep blue emitters on the hydra as opposed to the 2 deep blue on the vega, plus the violet and the UV that are not in the vega. Well violet is in the sol upgrade option, but not in the regular vega fixture it looks like.
I'm wondering if the "lack of power" talk is more of a visual thing because it doesn't look as bright. Kind of like how you thought the vega looked dim compared to the sol white. But the corals seemed to respond better to your new lighting.

Damnit, now I'm worse off than before and want to try them both.

Haha, it was hard for me to decide as well. Another thing Vegas have over the hydra is the ability to add custom pucks so you could technically add uv to a Vega unit. I'm just not completely sold in the whole uv spectrum thing so don't I'll be doing that.

yea, but that adds an additional cost of the pucks at $50/each. The Vegas supposedly have 20 channels of control vs. the 7 on the hydra, but is that actually functional? I think controlling each color string is plenty of control. Unless you want to use your lights at a rave or something.

So far you are only able to control color channels and not individual leds.

I love my vegas. I thought the opposite however when i switched from sols i thought they looked much brighter cause of the full spectrum. Frankly tho i havnt done much with playing around with the channels and lights. I just used the simple timer and been running them.
