So I received the Air Water Ice Extreme Typhoon. Very nice unit. Easy hookup.. Makes great water. . All the bells and whistles are nice. One problem. THe float valve does not shut the unit off. I still have waste water flowing.

Any ideas? I have emailed their support this morning but have not received a response.

The lines still may need to drain after the unit shuts off.

So the output water is stopped by the valve but not the waste water?
Make sure the ASOV is hooked up properly is the only thing I can think of.

Correct.. Output water stops.. But the pressure does not drop nor does the waste ever shut off. I even put a regular valve on the output and turned it off to make sure and it did not kill the system.

By the way what is your good to waste ratio on this? I am getting 50 PSI

Do you have a auto shutoff on the system? If not all the float will do is stop the output (R/O) water not the waste water.

Because you stop the output water the incoming water gets pushed out to east side and around the center of the R/O membrane.

Yes it has the ASOV installed on the Extreme Typhoon III.. I called and emailed the company. IF I can figure that part out this thing is pretty sweet..

How long did you wait after the float shut off the output? In my experience it can take a few minutes before it shuts off the waste. ASOVs are known to fail, so it could be deffective or maybe just installed incorrectly. AWI has good service and will take care of you regardless.

yes I agree they are known to fail. They also take a little time to work the valve. One other thing just double check you have it hooked up correctly. I have done that and was so made that I keep checking it and missed it.

It should kick off fairly quick if it gets a hard shut off on the output. You should see it in the guage and the waste water. I would guess ASOV valve. Either its installed wrong, or its just not functioning properly. I would try to call AWI tommorow if you have time. No point in waiting for e-mail replies back and forth. I'm sure they will get you straitened out.

I've never actually measured my ratio, but I would say its around the typical 4:1, maybe even a little better than that.

I took a look at the picture they sent in comparison with the ASOV and how it is hooked up. It is installed from the factory and appears to be installed correctly.

I am thinking of a booster pump as I have about 45 psi but my waste ratio is pretty bad.. I would say over 4 to 1

A booster pump would probably be worthwhile. One of the former places I lived had low pressure (about 45 psi) and the 75gpd filmtec membrane I used was not very effecient at that pressure. I would say it was about 5:1 and the TDS was still fairly high about 25ppm (the tap was pretty high tds around 350-400ppm). My current home has about 85-90 psi and it runs very effeciently with the 75gpd filmtec! I know it seems unrealistic, but I would guess it runs about 2:1 and my tds still gets down to about 2 or 3ppm after the membrane!

That's some really high pressure there Lee. I run right under 60 psi at my house. My membrane is probably up around 99% rejection though. Must have gotten a good one the last time I changed. Its wasn't quite that good on the last one.

Just heard back from Air Water Ice and my problem is fixed!!!

There was air in the system. They told me to tilt the unit while on left for a bit then right for a bit. After that when I tested the float valve it shut off after a little more than a minute.

They had already boxed up a new valve to ship to me anyway but I called them back in time to stop the shipment. Great company and I love this unit.

One thing I did find out is the pressure.. Mine shows 48 to 50 is on the waste side. So it is about 70 percent of actual so I am actually getting 60 psi which is perfect.

Again highly recommend this unit and thanks blackx-runner for telling me about it

Glad it was something nice and simple. I didn't realize air would do that. Good to know.
