I may try to increase my light period as well . I don't mind cleaning weekly if needed

So if a tank that has 5 fish and a bunch of coral frags and let's say you feed the tank 4 times a week spot feed everything. Is that a heavy bioload? Would a algae scrubber alone be enough to handle that much? I was looking into doing just a natural filtration tank nothing mechanical. But I'm not opposed to the scrubber.

I have 14 fish five of which are pretty big, tons of coral and I feed my tank a lot of homemade blender food.

The scrubber handles it pretty well, I find when I add too much Liquid food like reef fuel, I get a little cyano in the corners of the tank. Otherwise mine handles everything just fine.

The key is getting the proper screen size and lighting. Mine is not nearly as nice as Buds, it just uses a Curley Q lightbulb for lighting. My screen is about 10x12 on a 110 gallon tank and I clean it every week to 10 days.

You really can't have more natural filtration than an algae scrubber.

I'm kind of new to the algae scrubbing idea. If I bought one of these, would it replace the cheato in my fuge? And does it help balance the ph in the tank if I run it when the display tank lights are off?

A scrubber can out-compete a chaeto fuge, but you can run both if you have enough load, or depending on the light settings.

The concept of reverse-cycle lighting for pH control is the same as a fuge

I run an L2 on my tank with a skimmer. The scrubber replaced my chateo fuge and biopellets. In my experience the scrubber does a way better job at nutrient control than the chateo did. And I don't rely on 1 form of filtration on my tank. I have no algae in my tank. I do run a small amount of gfo for phosphate control. But will probably be removing that soon cause I am struggling to keep po4 above 0.00.
I usually run .02-.06 range. I feed heavily have medium-heavy biology on my 120 gallon Sps tank.
    I personally wouldn't run just a ATS.But that's just me.
