Xenia.  Seriously!?!  It just closed up and disintegrated.
Lps, zoas, monties, acans....all happy, and the *Xenia* doesn't make it.

Ohyeah, and I now have asteria starfish in my QT tank (those little tiny white suckers).

I'm trying to decide if I want to let them loose in the main display. I figure they are a non snail eater of algae and such...

The xenia dying, although a bummer, could bea good sign. They like 'dirty' water and them dying could show you have clean water for more advanced corals /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

There is a reason you dont see much xenia shipped. It is incredibly fragile to transfer. Incredibly hardy once established though.

The white starfish have always been harmless in my experience. They add biodiversity to your tank.......some will claim they eat polyps, but not too sure I believe that or not. They have never harmed anything that I have noticed in my tank and I have kept a tank since 2003.

I would consider yourself lucky. That stuff is IMPOSSIBLE to get rid of. Impossible.

I had some on a rock. Then I tried to kill it. That didn't work. Then I put another rock on top of it for two years and forgot I ever had it. Then I took that rock out of my tank, put it in a cold saltwater tub for two months, with no light. Then I took that rock out of the tub and put it in my display tank and the GD stuff came back. So I took that rock out of my tank and chisled the rock away until there was no traces of it.

I am going to assume there is a live piece of xenia on my basement floor, slowly moving towards my sump at a rate of less than an inch a day. In a couple months it will be back. No doubt about it.

Well, I tried to talk her out of the stuff....so I'm not sobbing too hard its gone /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif.

Besides, the Acans I got are way more deserving of space /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif.

Try to get all those tiny starfish off your corals before you put them into your display...once you got 'em , they can be tough to get rid of. And if you want more xenia, there's usually someone giving some away.

those starfish can hurt some corals cause they'll camp out on them, i had a bunch in my old tank and it killed spots off some of my sps. but they did do well with cleaning
