After multiple years of running my Apex without issue I came home today to find my tank off and water on the floor. The Apex controller main unit has no status light illuminated but the ports on the EB8s are still functioning. My ATO had dumped 45 gallons of RO into my sump and overflowed.

I've tried plugging the main unit into a couple different ports on my EB8s to see if I can get it to power up and I'm not getting anything. Does anyone know what the voltage is for the power plug.. I'd like to give that a try as well.

I don't suppose anyone has a spare brain unit laying around for me to borrow? I have no lights/heater in the meantime.

Great way to start the weekend!

Just curious with all of the similar issues with the classic apex. Have any or all of you reset or updated your unit recently? Seems odd that 3 people in our club recently had issues with the brain

I recently updated my firmware probably 7 days ago.

I sold my old one to Jim and it was working at the time we unplugged it from my current setup. No issues whatsoever. He took it home tried to reset and update firmware and it went dead similarly. Apex units are the hobbies top
controller on the market today. It seems odd that 3 within our club have similar issues all within the last week or so. My old apex I sold never had any issues the whole time I owned it. I have been in the club for many years and again I have never seen the apex have any problems like this let alone 3 similar issues in a week or so.

I had done a software update little over a month ago. Couple weeks after it would shut down and restart it's self over and over. Got it to quit. 2 weeks later it did the same thing. A week later it died.

Sorry about your apex going out. It is pretty scary to think if we do an update we might have problems.

They told @Jim@Jim the brain needed to be replaced. I am by know means an apex guru but this seems to be too much of a coincidence to me. Their latest release was in march.

That is a pretty weird coincidence. Anyone still follow the big forums? If it is indeed an update there should be a ton of people having the issue and I would think a lot of threads popping up about it.

I have not updated mine in a long time. Probably 6 plus months ago. I haven't experience any problems. I won't be updating anytime soon the bad luck everyone's having.

Neptune ended up sending my reset software to try, but it didn't help. I will be sending in my brain to get fixed which their message said can cost up to 150. You can buy a discounted brain for 220 if I remember correctly.

I would contact them and explain the similarities amongst three of our members and it had to do with updating issues. They told Jim his was fried and he would have to spend the 150

Has anyone been on r2r or reef central to see if others are having an issue?

I complained over and over on the Neptune forums. After waiting for features to be added for 2 years to the WXM and several other scenarios, I blew up. Customer service was lying the whole time. (I assume they've still not added acclimation mode to the wxm? That would make it 4 years?)

Anyways, after enough complaining Terrence contacted me and offered a full refund on my 2000$ worth of 2 year old Apex gear.

Went with the reef angel and haven't looked back. (it's definitely a little more technical to setup, but rocks, and you can do ANYTHING you can think of with it)

But on topic, I would bet there's a lot of people having issues. Best to call customer service and continually update them with every observation you have, their developer team sucks.

I went with the discounted replacement controller since I was out of warranty and figured a repair would likely be as expensive as replacing the brain. The new unit came and was functioning just fine for three days before going completely dead. No lights come on and everything else is running as expected. There were no power issues and everything else kept on running without missing a beat. Thankfully this new one is under warranty and they were quick about sending out a replacement unit which I should receive in the next couple days. I'm glad they have been great to work with but I'm getting a little concerned with what's going on lately.

Jim did the same. I am still concerned that it could be a firmware issue . I still find it hard to believe that a small group as Girs is that three or four people have similar issues and they also have a recent release on their firmware too.
