k so i bought a solenoid from waverz (which i need to get still)  and i was thinking I would run that with an autotop off.  but i want it to go down a ways before the solonoid kicks in so i dont run short burst of RO so basically have a start and stop point, would a dual switch system work for that?

Yes that will work, however, one thing you may want to consider is with short burst cycle you parameter swing is lower, if you are dumping in a gallon at a time this could impact your salinity quite a bit versus adding 2 cups or so.  I switch mine over to a time as float switches tend to get stuck in the on position and I add for 3 seconds every hour.  It is probably about 1/4 of a leter added every hour.

I would use the solenoid to top off a reservoir like once a day, then use a float switch and small pump to continually top off your tank from the reservoir.  By the way, does anyone know a good place to purchase a solenoid for RO line?

Let me know when you want to get the solenoid by the way. I am leaving for Michigan this weekend but I am free pretty much any other time.

just, be careful with hooking the topoff directly to a facuet.. we already have one local tank near fatality this season as a result

I should also mention that a RO unit runs a little dirty before it gets going. If you are doing 10 second bursts from that, your water will be getting a very high tds reading.
you are better to do several gallons at the same time.....

I use auto topoff, but only in a controlled amount, from a limited supply- bucket that, unless I am traveling won't be big enough to kill the whole tank if dumped all at once....

It is easy for mechanical failure... Or aquacontrollers to go mad... (in my case I got 5 gallons of Kalk dumped as it was being mixed a few years back... even though I had the RO limit being dumped)

yeah i'm aware of short burst RO water having a high amount of TDS. I am rething my auto topoff situation. I like Melevs usage of wrapping paper holders to store water, i dont have a whole lot of room to keep much water
