I love my 1911.. I dont have a 22 but I know the ammo is the cheapest out there and they can be fun (mainly cause your not gonna go broke shooting it). I like guns that go BOOM when you pull the trigger, not a clap sound you get from a .22.. My first gun I got was an SKS, there cheap and fun and fairly cheap ammo.. If your mainly looking for a handgun, look into a 9mm maybe like a Springfield :lol:m 9mm. Not alot cheaper then a 1911 but the ammo is more affordable...
    Good luck on your search

Thanks! Ive found a couple 9mm 1911 but at the price they want i could pick up a .45. Price of ammo isnt my scare. Its the cost of the firearm. Lol

IMO if its not a .45 ACP its not a 1911, don't care what anyone says LOL.
If your wanting to shoot, and shoot often then don't look at the price of the gun, look at the price of the ammo. You only have to buy the gun once, but it doesn't take long at all to burn through several hundred dollars of ammo especially shooting .45
9mm is a great round for taking to the range. Ammo is fairly cheap and plentiful.
I'd look at something other than a 1911 if you want to stay "cheaper" for your first gun. Get a decent polymer frame 9mm and hit the range. Save the 1911 for when you can afford the good stuff.

I found a good deal at CVO on a .45 acp 1911. Little over $400. Im just wondering if anyone had a used one theyd wanna sell or trade.

Should have spoke up sooner! I just traded one of my 1911s that I was looking to get rid of. It was a Sig Saur Tacops model.

I started reloading this year and can reload 45 for about half the price so if you are looking to shoot a lot you should look into that.

I don't think its a good idea to buy a 1911 for anything less than ~$750. The cheap brands are not worth it at all.

Try a p series ruger hand gun. I have a 9mm and love it and got it at a gun show new for 250.00. Well worth the money.

Ill probably end up doin something like that... i just love the look of the 1911.... lol still considering a hi-point. Stopped and looked at those. And to be honest, all the reviews ive seen from the last year are possitive. Pluse new for $190 seems like a good gun to drop in the dirt and kick a couple times. They are already ugly... lol

I have several Kimbers and I cannot speak highly enough. They are not the least expensive gun but for the money the qaulity cannot be matched. I shoot with many military men and women who rave about the accuracy and consistency. Kimbers also hold their value extremely well. They are like Harley Davidsons.

I have a Colt 45 and love it, but I like my P89 9mm better. For a newbie to hand guns they are very easy to get use to and easy to take apart and remember how to put them back together. That is a must when cleaning them. lol I was told by a law enforcement Officer that its is very popular hand gun in the force because they are reliable.

If I had the cash to blow I would buy a Beretta or a Glock.

My buddy is sheriff deputy and says that he loves his glock and wouldnt walk across the street for a berretta. I know its terrible to say but i wanna start with a dirt cheap gun so i can get my feeling for it.

If it were me, I would not get the cheapest thing I could find. The old phrase "you get what you pay for" applies ten-fold here. You'll never get the proper feel for a weapon of any kind by getting the cheapest thing available.

IMHO, you might as well flush the money spent on cheap products. At least then you have the potential enjoyment of watching it spin down the drain.
