Any body willing to host Xmas party?

    We have some money for our chapter saved up. I'm thinking we will have some door prizes. Anybody willing to host a fun little christmas party? Let's start thinking about it and see what we want to do. Just a month and a half away (or so)

    There's a SLIGHT chance that I might be willing to host, but I'd suggest trying something different this year.

    People have said in the past that they are not always comfortable showing up at someones house they don't know. How about we rent out a room in a restaurant or something.

    If nothing else, we could rent out a room at Lowe Park (where we had FF'08) and have a potluck there.

    Lots of options.

    There are nice rooms to rent at both the Coralville and Iowa City libraries. They are affordable and the Coralville one has better parking (and would be the better choice, imo). I like the idea of having it somewhere like a rented room because it spreads the responsibilities out a bit, instead of having one person having to clean and prepare their home for a group before and afterwards.

    No. No newbies are welcome..... :/ alright... you can come I guess lol!

    Of course, but we include paying members, so pay your dues soon and come join us! Our open events are typically during tank tours 2x a year for new members to "test drive" the club. But when we do holiday parties we're sinking our members dues into expenses. So I expect to see many of you there or we're spending your dues without you! haha

    I would only expect exactly what you are saying Andy. I missed the tank tour by finding this forum the week AFTER the fall tour.


    I think that I have hit the "Join GIRS" link 3 times already, but just haven't followed through yet. I am still mucking around in here, but will make that decision this week so that I can take advantage of the free admission for the Fall Fest on the 10th if I end up going (I wrote it on my calendar and told my wife, so I *should* be in the clear).




    EDIT/UPDATE: Just joined finally. No more putting it off. Now I just need PayPal and GIRS to get in sync. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif

    I like the idea of renting a room and having it in more of a public setting. I think more new faces would be willing to show up.
    Would we want to do it at a restaurant, or potluck style at a community center or library like Fawn suggested.

    I like the North Liberty community center. Its a central location and I am up for what ever.

    Ah yes....I think NL is good, we can do a big pot luck. I would like to do some door prizes to finish off our area annual budget, something like that. I can put together a presentation about something if you guys would like to have a discussion. I'll take a poll on the date here, in the mean time why don't some people chime in about what they want to hear about and I'll also get a potluck list together.

    December is a difficult month to schedule. January is an option, although the business meeting is also in January.

    hmmmm yes i def want to get the opportunity to meet some our new area members. lets look at early jan and ill see if craig is doing anything at his store this year!

    I think we need to find a date every month that is the date to meet. That way we all know when and were we all will meet.

    Agree. I pretty much have something going on every weekend in December, so depending on the day/date we actually choose will be the determining factor for me.

    Should we try to get poll together to get a majority vote?

    Yes and add first of year as alternate to Dec. Again I think we should come up with in 2013 that we meet every 2nd Tuesday in each month or something like that. Its something we can all talk about in our meeting.

    The first Tuesday after the first Monday of every month ending in "Y" The rest we alternate between the 4th Thursday and the 2nd Saturday. If it happens to fall on a holiday we shift it to the closest Wednesday.

    But seriously a schedule with solid dates well in advance would be great.
