I will say NO also would not want one EVER.

On 2 different occasions about 10 years apart the most recent being less than a month ago.
I have had a pit bull and a pit bull mix attack my dogs / dog (Siberian huskies) and I while running.
The first run in I had the pit bull charged a gate knocked it down went after the 2 dogs I had at that time.
He rip a hole in rear leg of 1 and left several puncture wounds on the other. I beat that dog on the head with a steel coupling on a rope and kicked it several times in the ribs never seemed to phase it. It was over 10 minutes before the owner came out of his house and the police arrived. By this time 3 or 4 of his neighbors were standing out watching and did not come to help at all. that dog was taken by animal control that day.

The one that just happened a few weeks ago there dog a pit bull, shepard mix had gotten out of the yard and was roaming the neighborhood the owner was out looking for it already. This dog came out of an alley and ran ran up the street to the intersection I was at and attacked my dog. There were some people that had stopped in there car and called police. they gave me there cell phone and said I could chase the dog to see where it went running to. The guy that it belonged to was a police man he heard the call over the scanner and got there before the police. after I had chased the dog over a mile. The police that showed up did not take the dog but said the owner is a great guy and will take care of the vet for me. I do not see that dog at that house any longer

The owners in both cases paid all my vet. bills. Thankful for that!

I as it can be seen do not like pit bulls.

wow listen to you guys, bbb a question for you, if you were to replace that pitbull and put a lab in both cases that happened to you would you be all against black labs? im not saying what happened wasnt bad because it was but just because it was a pitbull or what was thought to be a pitbull thats all that matters, All of these cases everyone hears about on the news and in the papers about pitbulls is just because they have a bad name for them and in all the years iv heard many many many many other breeds attacking people and kids but do we ever hear about that in the news or papers? No we dont. Just because everyone thinks pitbulls are suck vicious dogs because of their past their actully not. A dog is what it is raise to be if you mistreat ANY dog or let any dog do what it wishes there will always be something bad that can happen, If you dont feed me and dont pay attention to me i could do the same thing i could walk out on the street and take out my agression on the closest person walking by. I my self have 2 pits and they are around little kids and people all the time NEVER ONCE has there been anytime that i would question letting my pits be around people or kids, My oldest pit 4 years old when my nephew comes over he runs up licks him on the face then lays down on the ground and waits for my 5 year old nephew to play with him while my lab hates little kids and runs upstairs. I myself have been around an average of 40+ dogs on a daily basis any breed from pits to labs to great danes to shihtzus in the past 4 years i have only seen one pit that started a fight and many other breeds that start fights for no reasons on a daily basis. A dog is a dog they dont know anybetter unless taught different. I own 2 Dog boarding and Doggie Daycare facilitys and in the past 5 years we have had to ban 1 pit not because of temperment only because it had seperation anxiety and it would tear apart the kennel walls trying to get out and in the past 5 years we have told who knows how many other breed owners that their dog caused fights and wernt able to come back due to it happening on many different occasions, i know right off top of my head that we have kicked out 3 lhasa bichons due to us not being able to handle the dog because it was vicious twards us and we couldnt even go in their kennels to feed the dogs. Just recently we had to tell one of the owners of a border collie that they would have to take a break for a while and work with their dog at home or call us and we can do some one on one training with it because its attitude twards other dogs in the daycare room.

There is hundreds of breeds out there "Mix" Breeds that if you see walking down the road you would swear it was a pit but i have a quiz for all of you if you go to
    http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
Let me know how many times it takes you to actully find the pitbull, I guarantee you wont get it on the first or second choice and if you say you did then you got lucky or you are lying because it took me many times to find the true pit in those pics and i have seen alot of different breeds of pitbulls. My whole point to this is if your going to hate pitbulls because of what your hearing in the news or in the news paper then you need to actully do some research and find out exactly how many different breeds attack humans compaired to pitbulls and then you will realize the only reason you think these dogs are bad is because everyone makes a big deal about it when they hear about it but they dont do anything at all when they hear about anyother breed doing bad things they just let it slide because the other breeds dont have a bad name behind them because they arnt known as the so called "Dog Fighter"

    There is a difference

You dont hear about black labs or collies in the news ALL THE TIME.

It isnt an isolated case where one pitbull here & there gets loose, it is in the news ALL THE TIME.

There is a reason that Pit Bulls & Rottweilers account for 65% of all dog attacks. I am sure that they do not make up more then 10% of the dog population though

And you make the point for us. Your lab dosen't like kids so he runs upstairs. If the pit didn't it would try and pull the kids face off. And let's face it the only reason someone owns them is because it's a status symbol. It looks tough, people will be afraid of it. And yes all dog breeds can attack and hurt people. Should we get rid of all dogs? No, but perhaps jail time for someone who's dog attacks would be good since they only attack when mistreated right? My advice is if you own one don't be so sensitive when someone expresses their opinion about the breed. They have a rep and you knew that going into the raising of one. Opinions don't change overnight, that takes a long time, and the more this breed is used savagely and anytime it attacks someone is just going to further hurt it's image. My opinion is they suck. They were bred for fighting and are still used for it today. Sad little people making dogs fight should be whipped in public. Maybe then people would stop abusing the only animal that looks up to people. And no, I am no tree hugger, I'e been hunting since I was 3 years old. But I am a dog hugger, because no matter what happens my dog is always there for me. Which is more than can be said for alot of people in this world. Now, go ahead and get mad if you want, and type a big comeback, but at the end of the day this is the perception of pits and that is just that.

I didn't know the reputation of pitbulls was in question by the OP?

Look, people make pitbulls mean, it is NOT an innate breed characteristic. The point is that the type of people who typically want pitbulls are scum bags.

If I was going to have a dog it would be a pitbull. My dad has had a couple over the years and they are the sweetest most obedient dogs I have EVER seen. Some of them require a more stern discipline system in order to become obedient dogs yes. But if you raise them properly they will not be a menace or a danger to ANYBODY.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20020791-504083.html
And here is a story where there were three seperate pit bull attacks in ONE WEEK
    http://www.opposingviews.com/i/pit-bull-attacks-baby-3rd-attack-in-san-diego-in-1-week
And lastly a link to annual dog homicides that show 23 of 33 deaths in 2010 were from pit bulls, 14 of 30 in 2009, and 14 of 23 in 2008.  So in the last 3 years, pitbulls alone have accounted for 60% of dog killings in the US.

But yes, I am sure it is not the breeds fault that they are natural born killers

and yet another of a lab attacking 2 kids in the same week biting one in the face for no reason at all http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Ar...200710.pdf
and heres a website that will name just about every breed out there along with stories with attacks  http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Ar...gsBite.htm
Heres a link of a pomeranian attacking a pitbull http://thepoodleanddogblog.typepad....anian.html
a dog is a dog and if you kick the crap out of it and treat it like **** and mistreat it it will turn at any point in time on whatever it wants any dog is capible of doing that any breed at any point in time. and your saying owning a pitbull is a status symbol????? What kind of status am i putting off with owning 2 pitbulls? do i walk down my street acting like im king of the block just because i own 2 pits? No i dont i take one of my pits all around everywhere i go just to show if you give them the attention and the right training they can be amazing dogs i dont take it around to tell everyone i have a bad *** dog and you better be scared of me, im trying to show those people that have never seen a pitbull in their life but still hate them just because of what they know that they really arnt that bad if you take care of them and be a responsible owner i have seen many different times someone come up and say oooo hes sooo cute can i pet him after they start petting him they ask what is he i say pitbull and they look at me like im crazy and say wow. that right there shows their not all bad dogs its the owner and how they bring the dog up in life. So basically if your dog goes out and kills someone yes you should be responsible for its actions becaues it was in your care and it was your responsibility to take care of that dog.
So basically lets change this here really quick, if you had a kid and it went to school and got in a fight and then a couple days later gets in another fight somewhere around town we should put your kid down because their attacking random people??? NO you should see whats going on because obviously theres a reason for everything going on weather its not getting attention or their missing something in their life that use to be there or whatever the issue is you should sit down and figure out what the problem is. Correct some people do it just because they want to just like dogs but i guarantee if you look back on the history of the dog/human you will see problems in the past in either their parents grandparents etc etc... somewhere you will find problems starting and it goes right down the line "Genetics"     I didnt go out and get 2 pits because i wanted to show that im badass or that you should be scared of me i got a pit because i dont care of breed or bad reps or whatever it is i will give them a chance and so far in the past 4 years i have owned my first pit it has been a amazing experiance with no problems at all with any humans dogs etc.. Everyone has their own oppinions and thats life but to go around saying you hate any and all pitbulls because their all VICIOUS is bullshit because i have 2 in my verry own house that can prove that wrong and i have also been around who knows how many others that can prove that wrong and every single one of them has been raised properly and taken care of like they should be
The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family's Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby's uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. ("Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog," Los Angeles Times, Monday, October 9, 2000, Home Edition, Metro Section, Page B-5.)
Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner or handler most often is responsible for making a dog into something dangerous.
An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above).
Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be potentially dangerous. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack.

You can spin it however you want, but the statistics dont lie.

60% of human deaths by dog attacks are from Pitbulls. No if ands or buts about it.

Considering Pitbulls make up about 6% of the dog population, this should make you realize there is something more then people abusing their dogs. Many people say " he was always so gentle" right up until the point where they ripped someones face off.

and how do you know that it was truely a pitbull in everysingle one of those "cases" that attacked a human or a kid or whatever it attacked just like i said if you think its a pitbull your going to say its a pitbull but go back up a little bit and go to that website and pick out what you think is the pitbull. Every single dog on there looks like a pitbull but only one dog on that entire page is TRUELY a PITBULL so just because it was reported that it was a pitbull means obviously because one person said it was that it actully was but wrong just because who ever was attacked thought it "looked" like a pitbull it was wrong down in the police report that it was a pitbull when it could of been one of the 20+ other breeds that Look like pitbulls

now after going to that site and clicking on 10 different dogs and being wrong because it wasnt a pitbull if you saw one of those 10 dogs attack someone you would go out and saw it was a pitbull when you just took the test and failed because you couldnt pick out the true pitbull but when you see a lab or a pomeranian attack someone you know what a lab looks like a pitbull or german shepherd or maltese looks nothing like them so you say it was a black lab that attacked someone and you were correct it was a lab. So statistics do lie

there is no reason what so ever to have a pit pull they were bred to kill plain and simple. and i love it when i hear its how you raise the dog not the dogs fault. how many times have you heard this about a pit bull he was the best dog ever was so nice but he just snapped and killed my 5 year old for no reason. 20 times for evey one time you hear it about a different breed of dog. and yes other breeds of dogs do bite in fact my 2 year old was bitin on the check by our beagle because she pulled his tail the difference is she only got a scratch from the beagle if it was a pit bull it would have probably ripped her face off. And yes even though it broke my hart I gave my beagle to the pound because i am a responsible parent and would never let my daughter be around even a questionable dog. so any parent that has kids and pit bulls i have no sympathy for the parents when there kid is killed or disfugured i feel awful for the kid though for haveing uncaring parents. the reason im so dead set against pit bulls is because my cousin when she was 5 was almost killed by her neighbors pit bulls when they escaped there yard now she has scars on her face and will be disfigured for life.   my final say all pit bulls should be distroyed.
