Priced various pvc stuff tonight, and have a general idea, but I want to make sure...
Also anyone know off hand if inlet on bottom outlet on top vs inlet on top and outlet on bottom makes a difference?
I would think the water would have more contact time with media etc if it was bottom to top... /shrug
    Thanks [IMG]

...trying to build a canister filter? Is it really cheaper to make one? How much water are you trying to move through it?

The canisters I've used for freshwater had both inlet and outlet on top. Some filters will put the water on the media from the top down and others from the bottom up. The key is to prevent water from 'leaking' to the outlet and skipping the media...good ones have good seals between stages to prevent leaking.

Well for 10' of 4" pvc it's about 7$, I found some nifty rubber end caps with a screw tight steel band ( might still go with a cap and glue it) those were 5$ a piece... otherwise if I use tubing prolly .79$ a foot, if I use little pipes/elbows couple bucks a piece.. 7$ for 2.8oz of sealant.. Otherwise I think the most exspensive parts are the pumps themselves..
Know anywhere to get egg crate? I found some drain guards that would work, but 2$ a piece and I would have to cut off the ends so they slide in, but I don't think there's enough of an edge to keep it level in the tube..
Oh, and ya, upwards of around 600gph for my 55...

If its saltwater I would stay away from steel band clamps. I would just put caps on the 4in, and then use two 3/4 threaded fittings, and then tap the plastic for the fittings, and then alittle teflon tape and screw them in.
