So I was looking at my apex stuff that I have and pretty sure the only probe I have is the temp probe. It's been dry for at least 3 years do those go bad if not wet? Also I want a pH probe, is the lab grade worth the extra cash?

Also saw a thread where people have a tablet mounted in there equipment area to view everything. I don't have the display with my apex and have a cpl tablets I could use for this. Can you do this with the older apex or just the new one? Anyone have one setup this way?

I don't believe there should be any issue with the temp probe. To be safe I'd probably hook it up for monitoring for a while before programming any controls off of it just to make sure it's behaving appropriately.

You can use any tablet with web access via the apex fusion controls (can use your phone if you want). I am considering doing this with a cheap Amazon Fire so I don't have to fiddle with my phone (or run to a different room for a computer). No need to upgrade to the new Apex either.

That's the video I watched. Looked pretty sweet and since I don't have the display it would be a nice addition so I can see what's going on.

The difference in pH probes is really how long they stay calibrated. If you're not going to run a calcium reactor then you should be fine with the standard probe. I just re-calibrated my pH probe once it started showing 8.5 to 8.6. Then it dropped back down to 7.9 to 8.1. Just depends on how you want to measure items and how controlling you want to be.

I saw somewhere on the Internet net someone sold an acrylic holder for a tablet but can't remember where I saw it lol.

I would just do like fence said. Get the regular probe. Unless calcium reactor control.

Temp probe should be fine. They are easily calibrated.

If you see the link for the holder post it up, I'd definitely be interested in one.

That would be a nice clean look.. if that's what you're into. I guess I'm more into the rat's nest of wires look.

Only 1 of my 4 Vortech drivers are still up where they belong. Jebao controllers are just hanging there as well. I had really good intentions of making it look clean when I got started... but somewhere along the line it turned into a mess. I'm sure one of these days I'll get around to making it look pretty!

My old tank was just a mess of pvc and wires. I'm trying to make this one as neat as possible.

I can confirm that a kindle fire works well as an apex interface. I'm probably going to bend a piece of acrylic to hold the kindle on the wall.

No to steal the post, but have any of you guys had problems calibrating your probes?

    New probe, or older one?
I've never had problem calibrating a good probe. Probes do go bad after time. Also you can't let them sit out of the water for too long and dry out the sensor.

For me it's new out of the box. But I believe I have it narrow down to where the probe connects to the apex. It'll go all wacky, I'll mess with the connection and it'll go back to normal.
