I purchased some live rock for my sump and notice one has one Aptasia Anemone on it. Is this okay for the sump?

If it only has one there's bound to be more, but if you can see the one easily, save yourself some real trouble and just get it out now....

This brings up a good maintenance point. People with sumps should really examine live rock and such in their sumps for things like this. Your display tank can look great, but if something nasty is brewing in the sump, it is just a matter of time before it hits the main tank (if it hasn't already) and then it becomes a real problem to deal with.

I would take out the affected rock and deal with the aiptasia now, and you can always put a peppermint shrimp or two into the sump. There will be plenty for them to eat in there. I have 2 big fat peppermint shrimp in my sump and about 4 in my display tank. No signs (ever) of aiptasia.

I bought a piece of rock from another member maybe two months ago. Put in my qt tank to try and get a bta to unattach. In the meantime I found aptasia on the rock. It went nuts in my qt yank and before I knew it they were everywhere. Bought two peppermints the other day. Put one in my qt tank and the other in my display tank. In a matter of 5 hrs the peppermint in the qt tank had wiped out all visible signs of aptasia. Took him out and now they are maintaining in my 180. Hope my coral banded leaves them alone. So far so good. Peppermints for 5.99 from pets playhouse ( not my first choice but the closest) were well worth the money. With all the aptasia they have in there tanks they might wanna consider moving around some of those peppermints to other tanks, it was everywhere. Makes me sad to see their tanks being so carelessly taken care of. They have a lot of nice fish in their at a decent price I would like to have. Makes me nervous to buy from them.
