I just wanted to put this out there. I am heading down to Aquarium Wholesale directs two stores in the KC area Monday. I will be taking a trailer to bring back my brothers new custom 220G. Per my research they appear to have an AMAZING selection of fish, coral, tanks and equipment at rock bottom prices. My brother picked up a beautiful custom 220G with solid wood custom stand for $300 less than what we would get a standard Marineland 220 with particle board stand in the DSM area. Per speaking with the owner yesterday he just had over 2,000 new pieces of coral come in recently and should have twice that for sale. Since we are taking a truck and trailer down I may have room to bring back another tank if someone is truly interested or other livestock.

Here is a facebook link if anyone is interested. We will be heading down Monday 3/21/16 around 8AM and hopeful to be back in town around 5-6pm.

Would you be willing to bring fish back also or only tanks and equipment? I see he had a nice sale last weekend on fish and would be interested in buying some clowns for the price he's selling them for.

@Derek@Derek Ya, I could bring back the clowns, fish, inverts and/or corals. Only issue is I'm coming back to DSM area.

I've come across posts of his before. Always thought about going down there. I emailed him also in the past. I think they got a new place too. Is it in olathe? Or was that the old one?

Just to provide an update, we went down and they had a nice facility. Little cluttered but overall the fish and corals were in good shape. When we arrived it appeared their livestock was picked clean. Per speaking with the owner they ran a few sales and sell out fairly quickly. @Derek@Derek , They were out of your clowns so would of been a no go either way. We also stopped by Pet shop of Olathe, this was by far the cleanest pet shop I been in yet. They appear to specialize in Birds and Fresh water. Its a smaller store, but their freshwater livestock was outstanding. Very clean and healthy systems. Owner was also very friendly and awesome dealing with. I asked him if he had any salt and he referred me to a few other stores. 5 Star Service! If you have any freshwater this could be a good stop. We also stopped at Pet Paradise. Again another clean store but quantity was very small. Maybe had ten, 10gallon tanks of salt and fresh each. Not much selection. On the way home we visited our last stop Fishtopia. They were in midst of redoing their fish/livestock saltwater system so not much fish, however they had a very nice coral room. I ended up coming home with a beauty super Maxima clam. I was hoping to visit Reef Creations in KC area, but closed on Monday and Picasso Reef but they were over 40 mins on the other side of the city during rush hour.

Why on the topic of pet stores in other cities. I have visited pretty much all the stores in Twin Cities area, hand full in KC and few in St Louis. By far my favorite is Reef Studios in St Louis. Still can't get past their circle 120G loaded flasher wrasse system.

What stores are good to go to in the twin cities (or what ones have you visited)? I have family that lives up there but haven't been to any stores. Never really looked around to see what was available up there.

In the Twin Cities, I went to a lot. We spent 2 days driving around hitting pretty much every fish store Google pulled. Saltwater Empire is a nice store. They had LOTS of quantity and quality. Pricing was little above average though. I liked A World of Fish also, they had good quality/quantity as well. It did smell like a farm pond though because they have a bunch of Coy displays inside. If you can get about 30 mins north of the city Forest Lake Pet is also another nice visit. Great price on aquariums.

*Aqualand was a bust IMO- Whole saltwater room was broken down. No timeline or intentions giving to setting back up. Nice freshwater selection though.
