So for awhile I've used the hydor smart ato, temp based, and it works great.
Problem is I switched out my tank to the lowboy coral tank, so it's a 48x24x10 footprint. Thus making a half inch of depth a decent amount of water. And the problem is that the sensor for the hydor isn't adjustable except by turning it at an angle, and then I found that in the basement at my new place, it runs cold enough it keeps the temp gauge cold enough, to offset the tank water temp since I only have a very small amount of the sensor in the water. So it registers as permanently out of water. I think I could turn the heat up, but since it's spring, I foresee big problems in winter.

The issue is though, since a 1/4" to 1/2" is such a large amount of water, I can't have an ato that allows for that amount of depth travel before it refills.

I've been thinking about the Micro ATO, the titanium conductivity ato (hydrofill iirc), and the Reef Angel air-pressure based water level sensors, and just a plain old peristaltic pump that does timed runs.

Thoughts? Suggestions on ato's? I dislike the micro ato because it's one sensor and no backup. I dislike the titanium because it has no safety that's timed based in case a sensor dies. I dislike the RA water level sensor because I kinda want to keep it separate from the RA. And of course with the peristaltic pump I'll have to adjust it based on my observations from season to season, evap rates, etc...

Spectrapure UPLC II. It is a paristalic pump and runs from a air pressure system and a back up float switch. I can pump water from my basementto my first floor tank without any issues.

Tune A TO. I have 2 in use for over 2 years. Work great. 1 sump is a 70 gallon Rubbermaid with no baffles.

Do you have an extra dosing pump? I run them on both of my tanks. A little tinkering is involved to get it tuned in but my tank level doesn't vary enough to worry about between water changes. No controllers, floats, just a timer and a 2 1/2 gallon aquarium that I fill every couple weeks. I have been surprised by the fact that evaporation doesn't change much between seasons.

How big of tanks do you have? In the winter there were times 2 1/2 gallons in a day was the normal. That was on a 200 gallon display.

65 but I run glass tops that makes a big difference my house is already plenty humid I don't need to be adding any more. I don't know for sure how often I refill maybe weekly its just one of those things I just do and not give much thought.

Sometimes I think I should be using tops. With the area of water of this tank compared to others I've had, evap is noticeable.. Especially when I have a 70 pint dehumidifier running to keep the house <50% humidity.. I might just go the doser route. I have a single-head masterflex collecting dust.
