So ever wanted to go skydiving?  I've always wanted to go, but never had the nerve to do it.  I figure this summer is as good a time as any to knock this one off my bucket list.  Let me know if you would be interested in going.  I can get the details and organize it.
For those of you that have never gone before, your first jumps are tandem jumps where you're basically strapped to an experienced skydiver, so you get the thrill of the jump, without the danger of being inexperienced and not knowing what to do.
It's not cheap (between $150 and $300 depending on where you do and whether or not you want pics and video of the experience), but I'm sure would be a very memorable experience.
Also, any of you that have been recently, let me know when and where you went.  I have a couple of places I'm following up on now, but would welcome more suggestions.

Heh, why jump out of a perfectly good plane?

I'll stick to jumping out of a perfectly good boat... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif

Speaking of whitewater rafting?!  Love that too!  Here's a photo series of a whitewater rafting trip I did two years ago on the Upper Gauley river in West Virgina.  This particular rapid is called Pillow rock and is a Class V rapid.  When your raft comes up to the rock, everyone is supposed to smack the rock with their paddle.  Didn't work out quite so well for our group and we had 5 people fall out when the raft almost flipped.  What a great time!   If you ever want to go whitewater rafting, I would *highly* recommend the Upper Gauley.  This was a 8 passenger boat (plus guide)...for a wilder ride, you can go on a 4 passenger boat that gets thrown around a bit more.

Looks like one place that I looked at in DSM shows the tandem weight limit at 230 lbs.  Not sure how they do a first time jump for those over 230.  Hmm...if we have enough interest in this, I'll look into that part too.

Hahaha...yeah, I love his sort of maniacal grin.  No, I was one of the few that didn't fall out, but I was also of no help to my friends...due to my inexperience, I was unable to help any of them back into the raft...so they went over the rapid the hard way.  I'm seated in front of the girl in the back..I'm the only person wearing sunglasses.  Me, the two in the back, and the guide all stayed in the raft.

I've jumped twice. It's a freaking blast!! I went through Chicagoland Skydiving in IL. Also did a jump while i was down diving the great barrier reef. As far as IA goes, I know there are several places to go but don't really know anything about them. I choose Chicagolnad , because they had Tent camping on their property so i thought it was cool to go camping and then jump out a plane.

i've always wanted to do it, and would be interested. I have seen a few places doing it around Iowa, but I have never heard experiences or done much research on them.
I see from google that the University of Iowa has a skydiving club. Maybe some club members can be contacted for more information on reputable places to go for it?

My son started skydiving this summer out at Paradise Skydives in Vinton. He's doing the Accelerated Free Fall program, so he can jump on his own...i.e. no tandem. But, they do a LOT of tandem jumps...about $200. The people out there are EXCELLENT....very friendly, attentive, and thorough. I've been incredibly impressed. So...I would HIGHLY recommend the place. My wife and I have talked about doing it several times....I'm afraid of heights, so the adrenaline rush would likely kill me ! They jump from over 13,000 feet.

Group rates typically start at 10 people. I think we are up to 2 from GIRS and possibly another that's a friend of mine. Planning has pretty much stopped due to other things in my life right now, but I'll pick this up in a couple of weeks and see what we can get planned.
