Reefledlights.com just came out with a new housing for those DIY leds, looks pretty sweet.
You can get a look at it on reef2reef.

Looks to be just a fan housing covering a 18" heatsink.. Looks pretty awesome though.

this DIY LED fixture just released its kickstarter page last night! I'm pretty excited for this

    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/makersled/makersled-diy-high-power-led-fixtures-0

FYI: if you decide to pledge, no money actually switches hands until they meet their goal of $30k which is used to buy the extrusion die and cover intitial product costs

    Spread the word!

That's Mark & Andy McClure's project BTW - mcclandy and mcclmark. he mentioned this to me Tuesday on the phone and I couldn't picture it but now I get it. Very cool.

So if I am understanding correctly it's $83 for the unit as seen (minus the heatsink they popped in there of course)?

that is very interesting. is there anyone out there that has tried these out as a demo? what were the results? there are a few days left and a lot of money to make up to hit the goal. it would be a shame for them to be a very successful light source and not make it to the market.

This is pretty cool looking, when I was considering LEDs having a solid 6' fixture taht looked good was what has kept me from going with LED. I may keep an eye on this as for the price I can't buy the heatsink I want let alone all the other parts included.

    So
    $60 for the housing
    $23 for the fan
    $130 for the heatsink
    $70 for 2 drivers
    $120 or more for led
$40 for pots and wire and 10v power supply
It would be cheaper to buy an AI

Andy sells the heat sink fan and covers for $45.
Much better price. I hope they make it I already pre ordered a 6' kit
