well I am looking at getting a kayak, mainly for rec and fishing,  the kayak I am looking at is the Ascend A10.  mainly for the price.  I can add the rod holders and such as needed later on, but the cargo area and everything looks great and has gotten decent reviews, but was wondering if anyone else out there kayaks and what their recommendations are.
would like to stay around the 300 range and keep it a sit in kayak.  Don't like the sit on style.

I don't know if there is a place in the Des Moine area that does this but in Cedar rapids, there is a water sports store that does demos in the area.

For me I started with a pelican 100 and bought another cheap coleman. They are fun and easy to use and get used to a kayak. The ascend does look like a good sarter kayak for play and alittle fishing. A wider kayak is easier to handle when fishing is what you want to do.

I am now looking at the Perception models. Something in the 12 to 13 foot range and narrower body. Something good for small rivers

Yeah I think i'm going to go with the ascend. I can do cheaper i'm sure with the pelican 80 or there's one from walmart, but the storage is non existent. I'm sure i can get the dremel out and make my own storage hole, but would rather not haha.

I also was thinking of getting a personal inflatable pontoon. Seems like there would be more options and storage with them and have the ability to add a trolling motor. but then they are inflatable so not sure on durability.

the main area's I will be on is Des Moines river, Skunk River, ponds, small lakes and maybe a few creeks. Will never make any trips out of state with it to do any bigger fishing

I've got two of them snowman. Perhaps I could sell one of them. They are sit on top and one sit in for fishing. Use them on our pond up north but we don't need two... I don't know how much we paid for the sit in...

I have and still use LiquidLogic Saphires. Great kayak. My wife and I have been doing this for about 5 years and It just depends on the weight you carry and your feeling. Try to get out in a friends of someone you know just to get a feel for what you like. Some are tippy, some are wobbly, there is a difference. Good Luck and have fun playing in the water.
