I have 2 aqualilfter pumps that I want to use for auto water changes. I think I will have a problem with siphoning the water from the sump once the pump is turned off, since the hose will be going straight to the drain. Anyone have any ideas of how to create a siphon break for this application.

    Use peristaltic dosing pumps LOL

Why don't you keep the wastewater suction hose right at the top of your sumps water level then it could never drain or siphon to much out should the pump stick on or siphon.

I also think a simple airline check valve would cause enough resistance to prevent water from free flowing through it.

I wouldn't use aqua lifters for water change. Besides the problem you already mentioned with the siphoning of the water the likelihood that both pumps would pump the same volume of water each and every time I bet is slim. Depending on your total water volume and the amount you are changing it could throw the salinity off pretty quickly if it is out of sync.

There's a nice thread on Reef2Reef where they are using dual dosing heads running on a single motor and having good results. They are building the setup pretty cheap too. Auto water change on a friendly budget is something I am looking at as well. It just needs to be done with some safeguards in place otherwise it will be a catastrophe in the making.

Nope the aqualifters will clog with salt creep. They really are only good for R/O water if you ask me. Even then if you font have a pretty filter you run a risk of clogging them with dirt, hair or what ever might be in your water it self.
