I have a 10g tank set up as a quarantine with my two new bangai cardinals and I came home from school to see the temperature had dropped to 70. I've had them since Wednesday and can only assume that the temperature must have been dropping since then. I have a new heater in there now but its also broken only I know this one is broken so it runs warmer than it should.

    1) What are things I can do to help my fish overcome this setback? They seem ok now, only hanging out by the surface when I get too close or do a wc.

    2) They huddle together all the time but only one has pecked at food a little. Could lack of appetite be from low temperature?

    3) does anyone have a good reliable heater that I could borrow for a few weeks??

    Thanks!

    Kylie

IME fish do much better in temp swings than corals. I had my tank hit 95 (heater stuck on) and the fish were still fine. I think low 60s is right around where the fish will show signs of of issues, but someone should correct me if I am wrong. I like to keep the temp in the house at 75 degrees. That way the tank can't drop below that if it tried.

I had a similar issue in my QT and my clowns came out fine.
They were really slow and barely eating, but when the temp came back up they started acting normal again and eating like pigs again. I think you'll be fine as long as the temp issue is now fixed.

Ok. Thats good to know others have been ok. They do seem to be more perky than they have the past few days. Both of them picked at supper (instead of just who I think is the male) but spit out the rods food and completely ignored pellets. If they are picking at food now, will they eventually get hungry enough and eat it??? Or do you suggest a different food to try? I've tried Hikari marine pellets, Rod's original and Rod's eggs.

Try frozen shrimp or Mysis. Mine gobbled those down. Never had much luck with any kind of pellets with them but there is always the exception.

Hopefully you have a male and female. I don't remember how old they are before they mate but I had 4 batches of babies. It's very cool to watch the male carry them in his mouth and they are the cutiest teeny tiny image of the adults. If they ever do have babies they need to be taken out right away or the adults eat them but I guess that's in the future...lol

I think they are a little too young to use anatomy cues to tell but they havent nipped or fought once since they arrived

I just bought some formula two small sinking pellets and the clowns just love them. I do know that they were eating pellets when I got them though.

I got my pair from petland. I had Adam specially order me a pair. We were unsure whether they would send us a true pair or just say they did like car salesmen but so far they seem to love each other. They're in my Display now and every time my coral beauty separates them, the one quickly swims back to the other's side.

P.S. Will the angel ever back off? They have been in there since this morning (10/24) and are cowering in the top back corner. I haven't noticed the angel going into the corner but whenever they were in the open she would chase them. No ripped or nipped fins, just a lot of paniced gasping.
