So this is my first experience with Ich.  It has shown up on my hippo tang, who apparently did not like the fact that i aquascaped last week.   /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif   I have other fish in the tank.  yellow tang, 2 clownfish and a chromie.  They all are fine.
i have no hospital tank - yes i can go get one but from what i've read alot of reefers feel it further stresses the fish to remove it from the tank and then put it in a smaller tank.  And i don't think i can catch her without causing her even more stress.
She is eating as normal and acting like normal.  I have been feeding her and the rest of the tank food heavily soaked in garlic extreme per some of the research i have done.  I have been doing this for 48 hrs so far.  At this point i see more cysts showing up but also have seen some disappear or even reduce.  They have not affected her gills or her fins.
i also have been doing daily water changes to ensure water quality and have changed skimming to a drier skim.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Thank you
    MAry

I've always treated my hippo tang in tank for ich the 2 times he showed signs of it and it worked well. I just feed him frozen food enriched with vitamins, omega 3's and garlic and reduce any stress (i.e. no tank rearranging etc.). If you want to, you could always add a UV sterilizer and run the water through it really slow to kill anything within the water column. Good luck!

i feed rod's and have been soaking it in garlic for about 5 minutes (so it turns pasty) is there an omega 3 supplement? or is Rod's good enough? I have also been soaking their nori in garlic as well. Can I use any UV sterilzer? for instance one made for a pond?

    Thank you

Take this advice for what it's worth, but I'd do exactly what your doing. Make sure it's well fed with garlic enriched food and it will most likely be fine. My blue had the same thing a couple of times when he was new and he always pulled through no worse for the wear. I never saw any signs of it on my other fish, so I'm not even convinced that it's really ich that they get.

adams aquatics sells Lifeline food cubes, ive personaly seen it work wonders! i have fish that have been chewed in half, sick, upside down swimmers. If u get lifeline into them they have a great chance of living!

I've got 3 hippo's in my 125. They are a joy to watch. I also have 2 fire shrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, and a cleaner wrasse, too help with things like ich.

I agree with JB. How's the Blue doing now Mary? By the way a great supplement for marine fatty Acids is Selcon.

Good news, my tang is doing much better , spots are almost all gone at this point. i stopped down at AE and Justin told me to try ich attack. I used it beginning Sat and today almost no spots. This is in addition to using garlic soaked food.

Still no spots on anyone else.
