battery back ups for when the power goes out.
if you use one what type?
what all do you have that it will run?
only return pump and heater or some other things?
    Thanks

I would think heat and circulation would be key.

I don't have battery back up but when we lost power last winter I ran the return pump & heater off of the generator. Bad thing with a generator would be not to be home when power goes out...

The great thing about natural gas is that it almost never goes out simultaneously with the electricity. I got a 7kw generator installed w/ a natural gas feed that kicks over when the electric goes out, best investment ever, the whole house carries on like nothing has even happened. TV, xbox, computer, reef tank, CHECK.

I'm going to try using some of the Belkin battery backups for my Apex and Vortechs. I'll report back how they work.

I use a Icecap battery backup (now made by Ecotech I think) that runs my vortech wave makers.

Everything else is dead when the power goes out.

(of course I also have a gas generator)

I have used APC for various things over the last 15+ years, including my tanks, and I have never had issues with them or their customer service. They stand behind their products very well.
    I use two of these:

One has my heater, return pump and calcium reactor stuff plugged into it, the other has lights, MP10s etc etc. I also run the ethernet connection for my Apex through it, it has built in surge protection. The other beauty of these is that you get true power grooming/isolation, so you do not have to worry about lightning strikes, brown outs etc etc. Plus, the things are very quiet.
Given, these are not really sufficient to run things for hours unless I unplug certain things to make the most of the battery, but in the event of a short outtage, I have it covered to keep things running.
