Ok i live in north liberty and the wife and I with our 5 year old just recently moved to Iowa, so we need everyones expertise in the area.  I need to know the best saltwater stores in Des Moines  because we are going on a road trip for tank stock. Corals mainly, maybe a float switch if its cheap enough. Please any suggestions would be helpful, places you guys trust and buy from. Thanks again./DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/laugh.gif

I would think that Craig's store would be closer to you. You should consider some of the frag packs that people offer here for your corals.

If you're going to Des Moines, you want to go to Seascapes. Make sure you go on a day that Tim is there. I can't remember his schedule, but he's a great resource. I'd make that call before I drove in and ask if they have what you're looking for and if Tim will be there. Ask what day they will be getting fish and corals in. They go out of there fast.

I assume you have already been to Sea of Marvels then. In Des Moines Seascapes is the best but you may not find a float switch. The newest and extremely club active store is Anemones, Clowns and Corals owned by our past treasurer Craig Johnston (He is also the Chair of MACNA and a great guy) . It is about 30 minutes north of you. I would give him a call and see if he has what you want. If not he can maybe get it.

Craig's store *is* in the directory...it's called Anemones, Clowns and Corals, not "Craig's Store" ;-)
I'm not aware of anyone stocking float switches (when you say switches, I assume you mean switch, an electronic switch, and not float valve, a mechanical valve) locally.  If you look in the members section I posted a link to some places that sell inexpensive float switches.  (http://www.greateriowareefsociety.o...fault.aspx) (Note:  You do have to be a club member to access that post).

sorry always heard everyone refer to it as craigs and never knew the name but thanks everyone for the help. Plus i only have a 5 gallon nano. All i have room for and wanted a real challenge in doing everything small and growing from small frags. I have a pistol shrimp and an orange spotted goby right now with a cleanup crew. Also various small coral frags. I think the tang would be a little cramped. But i will try adams thanks armydog.

We've also got float valves too. They're super cheap, it's what I use...

Adams has very high prices not really worth going there I would def say ia seascapes or just ask some guys in des moines if they have any frags for sale im sure there is. Def recommend going to craigs store he has some really great fish and has everything that you need for the hobby thats where I will be going for now on for all of my livestock and supplies..

Seascapes has great marine life but I found they have really high prices on anything that is dry-retail like filters, pumps, sumps, etc., Some were almost double what they should be... It really bothered me so I didn't purchase anything.

Only bad part of having a retail store......is the overhead. Quite a bit of the saltwater supplies that are in the store come from distributors that unfortunately sell to the public (at less then 10% above what we purchase it for) as there are only two big time distributors that deliver to DSM, and they don't carry alot of the high end items. ALWAYS feel free to ask Tim or Scott if there is anything that can be done on pricing for members.....IT NEVER hurts to ask, worst case scenario we say we can't..... Some things we can move around on.....other things (like certain skimmers, uv's, chillers) are barely touchable as unless I buy a pallet worth, I don't get the discount like the internet stores that have unlimited customer bases. Thanks guys!!!
