To try and do my part as a vet tech, I'd like to try and spread the word about the hazards of lilies to all cat owners. Lilies are very toxic to cats. Especially Easter lilies. One bite leads a cat to kidney failure, no matter the part of the plant. We have four cats in the emergency ICU at Bright Eyes and Bushy Tails (where I work) who all ate part of a lily plant. All four are being syringe fed, on IV fluids, and have high medical bills. Please, please help me spread the word for all cat owners of the dangers of lilies. Both to help the owners and to prevent this happening to future kitties!
    Thanks

Anything else I should watch out for Kylie?? I'm in the middle of planting a new garden and my dogs are my babies ... don't know what I would do if something happened to them. They are pretty good at leaving my plants alone but wouldn't want to tempt them with something that could harm them.

Thanks for the post. I honestly had lilies that I was going to be planting in the back yard where my doggies play - the plants will now be finding a home up front.

I will send an email out to everyone at work. I didn't know the lilies were toxic until this weekend so there may be more I don't know at the moment but it would be good to know.

I got a great response from the email I sent out at work. Here are a few great websites that list a lot of the top plants toxic to animals:

    http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-poisons/top-10-plants-poisonous-to/

    http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/plants/

I'm also going to look through the toxic substances book at work if I have a chance on Friday or Sunday while I'm there. Hope this helps everyone and prevents an emergency vet visit for your furry friends /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
