I would like to get some black egg crate locally if possible in CR, IC, or Waterloo. I have found sources online if needed, but is there anywhere local?

Thank you! I will go there this weekend if I don't find anywhere closer.

one more question... What's the easiest way to cut it?

A pair of wire cutters makes it real easy

I agree with xroads. I've tried cutting with a Dremmel and it just melts the plastic and makes a mess. Just be aware that cutting it with a dull wire cutter may end up just snapping pieces off instead of cutting them off. Not that doing so can't work just as well, but I wanted to warn you that the exact piece of it that you have the wire cutters touching may snap off of the adjacent piece if you aren't careful.

+1 wire cutters, but, I use regular old (big size) scissors, work good too and seems to snap off adjacent squares less often since thinner than wc's, have the vacuum ready to pick up the shrapnel /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif I looked around last summer and couldnt find any black ones in CR lowes HD ect, a lighting co might tho, didnt check that.

Hey Shayna, I don't think they are open on Saturday, I live about a mile from Regal here in Evansdale, if you would like I could grab it for you and you could pick it up at AC&C.
Just let me know, I'll check with them tomorrow to make sure they have it in stock.

Table saw! Used my buds ridgid table saw to cut all my racks for my frag tanks and it worked flawlessly. Go nice n slow and you wont get any chips or nothing. Nice smooth flawless lines all the way across. Wouldnt do it any other way.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and John, thanks for the awesome offer! Since my light is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, I think I'm going to try to make something out of window framing and some bird netting I already have laying around. Black egg crate will most likely look better than anything I try to create (seriously, me + DIY = bad news) but I'll give it a try to give me more time to pick up the egg crate.

Thanks again, I'll definitely use the cutting suggestions when I pick some up.

Krylon fusion spray paint works awesome and is reef safe. You can spray paint the white stuff if its easier to get. It's how I did mine.

I was able to stop out at Regal the other day when I was passing through Waterloo, and they don't have black egg crate. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/sad.gif

I may have to wait until I got to Chicago. That stuff is pricey to ship.

I'm not really interested in painting it - I imagine it would be difficult to get in all those corners and if it comes out globby and with white spots showing, I won't be happy. I'll wait until I can pick up the black stuff.
