I have had a pair of mated Black Ocellaris for many years. At Spring Fest I bought a new pair of Snowflake Ocellaris and transferred my Blacks to my 125 they were in a 29 gal jbj nano. I am really sad that I found the male dead today he had only been in there for maybe 24 hours. He was extremely healthy. I have no idea what happened. I have a Brittle Star, Cleaner Shrimp, Flame Wrasse, Starry Blenny, Rainfordi Goby and a Lubbock Wrasse in the tank. I would like to get another decent sized Black Ocellaris if I can find one and I thought it would get along and survive. I know sometimes they don't get along with a new mate, that and I have no idea what happened to the poor guy. I really feel bad about it since I took them out of the only tank they have known and now he is dead.

    That sucks

Moving fish is sometimes the most stressful. I think stress kills more fish then anything.

It will be easier to replace the male since he was the smallest. Just try to find one smaller then the female and you should be ok.

I bought them from Kirklins Clownfish a long time ago and raised them since they were babies. The female is not wanting to eat and they were pigs in my small tank. I still have my Snowflakes in an acclimation box in the 29 with the bubble tip I bought. I had the Blacks and Snowflakes in the tank together before I moved the Blacks over. If my one Black I have left does not start eating should I move her back to the small tank and put the two Little Snowflakes in the 125? Would they be protected enough from the other fish since they both like to be in their anemone? i don't want to make things worse, how long can my Black go with out eating? I have been putting the food in right next to her and she just lets it float by.

Your 125 sounds like it is mostly peaceful, I think the small ones would be ok. Or you can put all 3 in the 29 for awhile as well until they get a little bigger. If you do that, let the small ones go first, then move the big one over and be watchful.

Usually 2-3 weeks for a fish to starve to death.

I think Jason Kirkland has some more clownfish ready to go.

Well my female died. She was out and about swimming slowly, which was her way. She usually stayed in a corner. I went to go get food to see if she would eat. When I came back in she was In the rock work dead. They were some of my first salt water fish. It is funny how attached we can become. I imagine the flame wrasse chased it. It can be a bit of a bully but in the other tank the clowns ruled so since the were so big I thought they would do fine and appreciate the space. I never saw the Flame chase them, I am only guessing that was the cause. I might put another set of clowns in the 125 but only if they have their own anemone to stay in.

Awe, so sorry to hear about them Maureen. like Craig said, stress is a big issue with moving from 1 tank to another. That move, no nem, new rockwork & flow, plus any chasing/bullying can take any fish quick.

Sorry to hear about your Ocellaris. Grief seems to transcend across species.

Maybe not so much as some pets but I had grown attached to those stupid clownfish! You look at something and take care of it for years and then move it and kill it, it makes you feel bad.
