Blue Dot Jawfish

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by nanotank10, Oct 13, 2012.

  1. Got it in from Saltwaterfish.com last week for around 85 dollars (120 at Iowa pets&seascapes). It is definitely one of the most interesting fish I have purchased. Will sit in his burrow all day, completely paranoid about everything around him.

and those alienlike eyes will follow you wherever you go. my sandbeds 4-6 inches deep, but the main problem I have had with him is that he is constantly removing all of the sand out from under two of my largest base rocks! he has completely excavated underneath one of them and has now moved on to another, i'm constantly worried that everytime I have to rearrange something in the tank, all the rock work will completely collapse. Any suggestions on how to prevent this? But besides that, very cool fish, he likes to collect debris and make a nest out of it, once and a while he will add this crab to his nest (second picture) and everytime the crab tries to come out and walk away the Blue dot will pick him up in his mouth and put it back into place, funniest thing to watch.

One of my favorite fish! Get used to it, that's just the way they are. Once they've established their home, they'll keep it clean and keep intruders away.
    Nice price by the way!

Very nice! I have always wanted one but I have been a little leery of spending that much and having it not make it. Has anyone had any problems keeping a Blue Dot healthy and happy?

One of my favorite but most hated fish of all time. I had one in my biocube for about 6 months a few years ago. I eventually had to get rid of it do to it's constant need to bury corals.
