I have my tank set up. (Bought an existing tank that was still runnning but had no fish) I'm ready to add 3 blue green chromis and wondering if anyone has recommendations on which stores would have the healthiest fish. I don't have a quarantine tank, and I don't want to spend the money for shipping on this few fish. Thanks for any suggestions.
    Thanks, Pam

im starting a internet busines buying and selling fish and coral. should b up and running n about a month. im still n contact with all of my old dealers. i have had great luck with them for the past year.

I don't think I have ever seen Adam's Aquatics have chromis. Iowa Petfoods and Seascapes has them for $5 a piece. I have bought 2 pair there and I ended up losing 1 from the pair within 48 hrs. This was 3 months in between buying each pair

Sea of Marvels always has good fish. They're in North Liberty, but its well worth the trip. I think the chromis do a little better in larger numbers-could you get 5-7 in your tank?

I've always found it difficult to keep a large school of Chromis. It always seems to quickly thin down to 3 or 4 fish.

To the original poster: I don't know where you are located but In Cedar Rapids, you will always find them at Pet's Playhouse. For Iowa City, try Sea of Marvels. You can't go wrong with livestock from either of those places.

Thanks for the store suggestions! I ended up going to Seasccapes. The store ended up recommending I go with Damsels for now. I have 3 blues and 2 yellow tailed. Waiting for my cycle to start, hoping its not as long as a new tank. We moved 60% of the existing water, the rock, filter, etc. I did change the substrate to new live sand...Any guesses how long my cycle period will take? Tank has been up a week, fish have been in 2 days. Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates are still at zero right now.

Also I'm not sure what to do with the damsels when I'm ready to add more fish. Fish store will take them back if I want. I like their activity and color, but don't want them picking on my other fish...What are the odds they could stay in and play nice?

My tank is a 90 gallon, currently running with the hang on the back filter, but there's a tidepool sump built in, just waiting for a few replacement parts that will be here Wednesday. My future stock list will be 2 False Clowns, 1 Blue Hippo Tang, 1 Yellow Tang, and eventually 1 Koran Angel (or a flame angel)....(Was going to include the 3 blue green chromis and a royal gramma-but if I can leave the damsels I'll just keep those and skip the chromis and gramma)

    Thanks for any thoughts, Pam

If you used 60% of existing water, you might not have a typical cycle with ammonia, nitrites and nitrates spiking. It's funny that the store would recommend the other damsels over the chromis. Good luck getting out the damsels because they will be hard to catch.

Don't get too caught up with adding a bunch of chromis to your tank, they will eventually thin themselves out anyway.

i hate damsels, i had a couple that were mean, they get territorial and some can get pretty big too, your blue and yellow tails may be ok, but the all blue devil damsels can get mean. mine was banished to the sump before it got ate by my return pump. and yeah good luck catching them, i had to move all my rock work around, it was a pain.

it is odd they recommended them over chromis though..
