Anyone have this as a hobby or ever tried it? It something that has intrigued me lately and I have picked up some small pre-bonsai trees to mess around with.
I think everyone tires from just about everything once and a while. It is not that uncommon. The bad part is some get tired of it and just sell everything then two months later they want it back. It happens. Just remember Wax on- right hand Wax off -left hand
No Karate Kid but I am wanting to see the new one. My main reason for wanting to get into it is well I have always been into growing stuff and I majored in horticulture. The only thing I do not like about it is the time frame for a tree to actually grow....guess this will test my patients.
yeah they are not fast growers by any means....although on karate kid they made bonsai's out of small pine trees, just cut the limbs how they wanted them and used wire to make them bend and grow differently haha....just watched the 3rd one yesterday..
Ya I have been subscribed to one of the youtube people (chasnsx) Right now I have a typical ficus, brush cherry, and a japanese maple.
Adam, the fish manager at Petland in Iowa City LOVES bonsai and would love to talk with you about it and get you into the hobby. He hates not having as many people to talk about bonsai with as he does in the saltwater hobby
I was actually reading a thread on RC a while back that consisted of quit a few reefers who also enjoyed bonsai. I was a little intrigued and played with the idea of starting something like this, but I simply do not have the space for another hobby LOL. Seems like a nice inexpensive hobby too, at least compared to all my others /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif
The Iowa Bonsai Association has branches in Des Moines www.iabonsai.org and the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area www.easterniowabonsai.com. The DSM group meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Botantical Center. I'm not actively involved right now but I'm a past president of the DSM group and would be willing to share what knowledge I can. The meetings are good for learning the basics and the trees are display at the State Fair and Reiman Gardens are usually outstanding. The club used to bring in masters who would critique and/or work on your trees. The Bonsai club has nowhere near as many members as GIRS.
