Ouch, so I take it the turn-out was low? I wanted to come but family obligations took care of that idea.

Turn out was OK, but there were a lot of faces from the CR/IC area that I would have thought would have been there...

I think that alot of the turn out is bc GIRS has made the system feel like clicks at the meetings. You guys may not feel that way bc the the ones that read this is the ones that are in the click. I dont neccasarly feel that way but you have to really motivate people to come to these things. Its not easy going into a group of people you dont know and try to fit in. This is what i have heard from others, so if you want to boo anybody it should be yourself.

Fair enough...   What you say might be true, but the fact of the matter is that people who have been in the club longer know people better.   There are groups of people within the club who tend to hand around or talk to one another more because they know each other better, but I don't know how that could ever be avoided with any significant sized group of people.
Overall, I think we're a pretty friendly bunch and you have to do something pretty nasty to not be welcomed in.
I'm not discounting what you say at all because when I first joined the club, it took me 3 or 4 meetings before I really started to feel comfortable, but the flip side is if I hadn't attended the meetings, I never would have felt that way.   I will also say that we as a club generally don't do very good at introductions and sometimes that hurts us.
But, at the meeting today, all of the trustees were introduced and people were asked several times if they had questions/comments.    We also gave away a bunch of free raffle tickets for a couple grand worth of nice prizes.   I don't know what more we could have done to entice people to come.
The one thing you didn't do in your post was offer any solutions.   I'm curious, do you have any?

I wanted to go, but seems like something er other always prevents me :/ I think the group is over all very friendly. Sometimes I feel a little out of place because I'm one of the few females, but that's just the make-up of the group I guess.

    Hey Fawn,

The numbers are definitely improving in your favor. There were more lady reefers at this meeting than I've ever seen at one of our events!

Lol, good to hear /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wow.gif  Maybe we need to start a women's subforum /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/tongue.gif  Then maybe we won't have to listen to such vulgar language, well, not if rockinsmall is there hee hee /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/wink.gif  I actually laugh-snorted when I read that, so I guess that means I must fit in, at least a little bit /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/cool.gif

I planned on attending, but it is tax season and I didn't have my homework done so I couldn't come out and play... As for clicks, I personally believe the reef club is the least "clicky" organization I have ever been a part of. Everyone is typically very open. I will admit I think a better effort could be made by some of the members to interact with newcomers, but that shoe fits on both feet... Introduce yourself if you are new. Hell we have a great ice breaker topic, we are all there to talk tanks. I also don't know a way that people could have been more enticed to come to this meeting. The raffle prizes were amazing, there were carpools on all local forums, the topic may have scared a few away, but come on there should be no excuses for not coming that would be the fault of the club. I do blame Obama for the fact I had to stay home and do taxes though...

The club is here to serve all of its members. It is up to the members to decide how involved they want to be. The only one to blame if you don't benefit is yourself.

    Travis,
I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head.  I feel exactly the same way.   There is no doubt that the club can (and needs to) do a better job and introductions during events.   We need to make sure that new attendees are recognized and introduced, in fact that should probably be the first order of business.  I think that would go a long way towards making people feel more welcome...
The flip side is that the club is kind of what you make of it...   You can either sit on the sidelines and be on the fringe of the club, or you can get right in the middle of things and take advantage of all it has to offer.
